One of my good customers has an '03 WRX. He has a larger than stock turbo(some model he spouted off but went right over my head, didn't look any bigger than a 16G though), 3 inch turboback exhaust, supporting fuel mods, big old FMIC, stainless exhaust headers and a UTEC that was professionally tuned by some place in Michigan where they got him to 310hp on their AWD dyno. He has the dyno sheet to back it up. He hasn't been to the track with it since it was stock so he is unsure of where it lies.

Most of you know my setup, for those that don't just look in my profile. I put down 320 on Elites dyno and run a 12.772 at 108.

Now his number was on about 28psi with 110 leaded and I was at 24psi with 100 unleaded.

We were having a conversation earlier this evening about a race between us and were not sure of the results. It would be pump gas and pump gas stable boost(I know I can run 18psi without any probs and get about 280hp) but he doesn't know what he puts down with 16psi.

What do you guys think?

It's not like either of us are scared about racing eachother, in fact we would have done it tonight except for the cold and my air filter still being relatively soaked from the rain this afternoon. Hopefully I can get him to the track on the 10th to see a concrete time.

My .02cents.....Take it to a track and run them. That way you have a timeslip to back it up.

My experiences with WRX's is that they are a bit doggy. I raced a new WRX from a stoplight one time (I know, I speak out against street racing all the time. It was 2am with no other cars, pedestrians or anything else.) and held with him (even though he got the launch). I don't have much done to my car and wouldn't expect more than a little over 220 to the wheels. Plus my clutch slips at higher boost. We also did a roll and I began to walk him after second gear with a little over 3/4 throttle. I don't know much about their gearing, but it doesn't seem like it can hang with a DSM gearing. Plus, their trannies are even more frail than ours.

You guys have comparable hp. I think you should be able to take him as long as you have it tuned right for your fuel. It will probably come down more to the driver and how well you know your car. I mean hell, I beat a modded twin turbo 300ZX at the track because I had a better launch and 60' time. If we went from a roll, he would've slaughtered me. And that was before any mods on my car.

Plus that valve cover adds about 75hp to the wheels

WRX's are not fast street cars. They are decent, but are nowhere near a half way modded DSM. Alpine, I have seen your car, you would smoke a WRX no problem, from a roll or from a dig, it wouldn't matter.

Fuck if you don't want to race him, I will race him in my laser (from a roll of course).

Alright, I am going to see him tomorrow so I suppose I could give it a go.

And yeah you are right Erik that valve cover really made my car what it is.

I agree that it would be a drivers race. 310 AWHP is a pretty good number. I would bet that he has a VF23 or 22 sized turbo.
