Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX
Well I just measured the distance from the back of the radiator to yhe waste gate and doesn't even look like a slim line fan will fit as a puller there.
So now its looking like I'm going to have to remove the a/c and go with pusher fans which I really didn't want to do seeing as its over 100 for like 4 months out of the year here.

Slim line fans usually taper to the edges too, so you might have more room to fit one than you think. What is in there now for fans?

Are your exhaust manifold and turbo hot side ceramic coated? If not, that would help.

Yes to both and it has a blanket on the exhaust manifold as well as being coated.
Im thinking I might try the xline radiator with the lower thermostat that mishimoto makes.
That radiator is 25% larger then mishimoto standard radiator And just use the one stock fan for now like it now and just see of the larger radiator and lower thermosts will fix the issue.
If it doesn't then ill know i have to get drastic again.

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX
Again this car also doesn't sent water through the firewall to the heater core. Or the intake. He had the water pipe that runs under the turbo welded shut. As well as the part of the thermostat housing.

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX
Well i reverted the tune back to where it was when i picked it up. And I must say doing so showed me how over my head i was trying to do it myself. As it runs so much better on the old tune.
And after driving home i'm starting to think the stuttering i get at part throttle or initial touch of the gas may be spark plug gapping.
I have an new set of 7es... (i pulled the old ones yesterday and they were grey colored)
anyrate if anyone wants to look at the logs with WOT pulls i put up 2 logs of my ride home. And this time WB is correct on the logs. I noticed the highest boost i saw was 21psi for a split second otherwise it was normally hanging around 17psi on the gauge.

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX
My experience with lower temp T-Stats. If you're cooling system is working as it should, it will work great to keep your temps lower. However if you are having overheating issues, all it does is delay the inevitable. It never actually fixed anything for me, simply delayed it by a little bit.
One other thing I forgot to mention. If you're oil cooler setup is the type where the coolant cools the oil, you could potentially benefit from switching over to an air type oil cooler. Takes a little bit of tax off the coolant system, and every little bit helps.

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX
I researched taking the heater core out of my car for a while. What I found (at least with 1g's is that if you just block everything off, the coolant can no longer circulate unless you loop the lines somewhere. Might not be your issue, but worth looking in to. For me, I decided to just keep the heater core, wasn't worth the hassle of saving ~10 lbs.

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX
So last night something really wierd happened. I posted a log of it on ecmlink, same thread ad always.
Anyrate I let the car warm up thr proceeded to start driving across the parking lot.
And the car started sputtering as if it want getting any fuel or power. It finally died. I stopped the car shut the ignition off waited a few seconds and then started the car. Fired right up as if nothing was wrong.
I proceeded to drive home. Doing logs of the tip in issue I am having. As well as after like 18miles of nothing happening i did a wot pull and everything was fine (other then the wideband was reading 9.8/1 at the start of the pull and only got up to 10.8. @ 20psi)
Drive it through town to the bank and then home driving completely fine?
Any ideas why it would Shut off like that when I first got going?
The battery is located in the trunk and part of me thinks there might be a connection issue there. Or maybe its the cop set up

If you're cruising around that rich, you might be fouling the plugs.

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX
The battery being in the trunk wouldn't cause the car to die. The battery is just there to start the car and run accessories when the engine isn't running.

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX
I mentioned the battery because the fuel pump is wired to it.
And I noticed today (as the car shut off twice on my way to work so in pulled over to check stuff)
That the positive connection to the battery was slightly loose (I could move it side to side if I put little bit of effort)
I also wonder about plugs going to swap those tomorrow for sure to verify. Buy other then wot.
This issue doesn't seem to matter what throttle, idle, cruise, a/f etc.
It shut of while I was parked getting my food from mcds drive through. A/f was completely normal when it happened.
Then next time I was doing tip in logging (where I zero the throttle while cruising and then tap the gas to 12% and it would then go to full lean and sputter sometimes if I leave the throttle alone afterwards itll go back to normal... but more often then not it shuts down.
I had it happen while cruising and and itll just sputter. I logged fuel flow after I pulled over to check stuff amd one thing I saw right away is the fuel flow will go from say 110cc/mm to zero or some times 50. When this happened. Ill back off the gas and then itll flow like normal (consistent)
Ill post logs tonight as I dont know how to connect my phone to the laptop

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX
With thr fuel pump being wired directly to the battery for power. How should that be set up?
I do see a fuse in line but haven't had the chance to follow it to the pump. I ask this because every time the car has been sitting for a while it acts like there was something draining the battery.
And not sure maybe the pump is always on? How do I verify? (Again at a work or I'd be searching for the answers, so I apologize)
I log battery in every log and the volts dont change during any of these episodes.

Re: Potential Buy 1997 GSX
Reality is I dont have to drive this car , I just want to.
My original issue was this fuel stutter at initial throttle now its lead to full on car shutting off. And out of all the things that need/ i want to be done this takes priority imo.
Im hoping jet will chime in with what kind of issues he had with his cop. Maybe some of this what he was experiencing.
Otherwise looking for a list of things I need to check.
-Plugs for sure will be swapped either tonight when I get home or tomorrow
-fix the battery terminal
-check the fuel pump wiring/setup
-check for clogged fuel filter
-I've checked the fpr at idle and the gauge reads stock
What else should I check?
