I always wondered, how do those fuel cut defenders lie to the computer without any ill efects?

Fuel cut has nothing to actually do with a lack of fuel, it happens when the ECU sees too much airflow and it assume the wastegate setup has failed and the car is overboosting. You should get an upgraded fuel pump anyways though. The real fix for fuel cut is to turn it off in the tune, you can do that with DSMLink or an Eprom chip.
