Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
Anywho, small update. Pulled the turbo and manifold off. Trying to clean it up a little. It is leaking oil in a couple places. For one, my oil return line is cracked and leaking. And it was really oily on top of the turbo itself.
Gonna take a couple days just cleaning, but its worth it.

Oh this thing needed it. It looks like it wasn't cleaned in like, ever. lol. I mean, it looks like the only time it was ever taken apart was to weld up the turbo mani. It has two big ass welds on it.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
Well, finally got some work done to the car. I decided that maybe working in the Talon aint gonna be my main focus. I will be parting that out completely.
Anyway, I did put the 16g turbo and exhaust manifold off the Talon on the Galant tonight. I also replaced the crappy bolts that were holding the exhaust mani on with an FP stud kit. Also put on a new exhaust mani gasket of course. lol
Gotta order a couple little things for it and will hopefully have it running again soon.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
WOO HOO!!! Finally got a trans for the car tonight. Picked it up from Daneatsv8 while dropping off parts to members. Gonna try and get it in this week and got some other things I want to do too.
Also got my non cruise cable coming, deleting that since it dont work, and possibly ac too. All depends on whether it works after I get it running again. Also gonna start looking at getting the Evo intercooler on and seeing if I can somehow use the 1g short route piping I got from Goodhart on it. May take some time to get it done, but I am hoping to clean up the engine bay quite a bit.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
Not much of an update, but finally getting somewhere on the Galant. Been kinda tough working on it due to a new work schedule. Only get about an hour of daylight everynight to work on it.
But I have everything apart and just gotta pull 2 bolts off the trans and the trans mount and than it will be out.
Than when that is done I gotta put in my non cruise accel cable and thinking about doing a small battery relocation inside the engine bay. I will have some pics of that stuff.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
Well, was on a roll today getting the galant back together until I noticed that when I bought the trans I never even asked about what spline count the transfer case output shaft was. Well, Its different than what I have, so I am gonna swap that out tomorrow.
On the upside, I got my gauge pod just about done. I had the gauges below the radio but did not like looking down at them all the time. And I didn't want to do the a pillar pods. So I got a Galant GSR dash pod and made my 2 gauges fit in it. It looks pretty good for a quick job. And it hides them pretty well also.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
Gauges look good man. So what is the deal with the transfer case? Did you put a 1g trans in the car and don't have the right t-case or what? I have a 1g transfer case and a GVR-4 transfer case if you need one.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
When I picked up the trans from Daneatsv8 i forgot to ask about spline count on the output shaft for the transfer case. My car has a 22 spline transfer case, while the trans I bought has a 23 spline output shaft. I think this is cause Dan told me the trans is a JDM Galant VR4 trans and I never 2nd guessed it. So it was my fault.
For a little while I thought I was boned and needed to buy a new transfer case. But after doing some reading I see that its actually a pretty easy thing to swap the two shafts. I kinda jumped the gun on it and posted up a WTB and FS ad for my old trans. Kinda felt like an ass after I did some reading. lol

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
The pods are getting cheap man. I know I overpaid when I bought these ones, but I was desperate and nobody else had any for sale. And honestly for the time being the piece that the gauges are in is just hot glued to the pod. I was mainly doing that cause I wasn't even sure if it would fit so I didn't want to make it permanent.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
Well, got the transfer case shaft switched out today. Dam that was easy. I was thinking it would be a hard job, but nope.
Also got the car mostly back together. Found some wiring connectors that were messed up so went to the junk yard and got some new ones. Should be able to get it back and running tomorrow as long as the weather holds out. 80% chance of rain tomorrow. Here's hoping they lied about the weather report.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner about the transfer case, I've been busy with school and everything. Good to see that you got the shafts swapped out. Let me know if there's anything else I can do. Good luck getting it running.

Its cool man. I asked you about the transfer case before I even read about it. I know things are crazy right now with school. Seems like everyone is having a hell of a week so far. lol

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
So. It runs!! Trans shifts great, and the extended slave rod helped the clutch engagement. Now I only have two things to figure one.
First off, when coming to a stop the car will idle down pretty far, around 500 rpm if I am reading my tach right, and the oil light comes on. but if i bring the rpms up just a little it goes away.
Second, the ignition switch is messed up so i need to find a new one.
Otherwise I am happy with it. And on only 6psi of boost on the 16G feels good.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
Glad to hear that it runs and that the tranny is working well for you. I guess my Galant will live vicariously through yours for the next couple years.
As for your idle issue, I would try messing with the BISS screw on the throttle body. You will have to put the car in timing mode in order to do this properly. Once it's in timing mode, then you can try turning it counter-clockwise a few turns to see if that helps with the idle and oil pressure.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
Not much of an update. Just a pic. I got bored on the way home and decided to see how high the river was here seems as how they have been releasing alot of water from the lakes around here. And well. Its pretty high. lol
Anyway, Hopefully It will stop raining so I can continue checking things out on the car. Just waiting for my data logger setup to get here so I can see what the car is doing. And hopefully that will help me solve some issues.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
So got my data logger and found some issues. WHich I am taking care of. Got another TPS coming. That was the major thing. Probably wont get much time to work on the car in the next couple days/weeks. Been helping friends and others sandbag and prepare for this flood were are having. Its been pretty epic. They are saying its a 100 year flood. And that water can remain at that level till august. So....I might look at relocating to a different town. Just not sure where yet.
BUt, hopefully I will be able to still get some things done with the car. I am forseeing alot of downtime at work which will give me time to sort things out.
