Very nice. How much do EvoXs weigh stock?

3600ish. The displayed weight is with me in it, so my car is down 100lbs or so. That's just from rims, rotors, exhaust...in other words, I haven't tried to lighten the car. I carry the spare, for example.

Sorry that I missed your post. They let the first cars onto the track at 9a and run until 5p. I usually bail at 3 or 4 to make the drive back. My next day up there is for the MAP weekend. Road course is Saturday. Happy to take anyone out for a session...you'd just need to find a helmet that fits.

Today didn't go so great for me. It turns out that the BAP cooks the Bosch 044 after about 10min and it stops pumping enough fuel for the motor.

I think I'll just order a Weldon 2015-A. The only downside is it may require upgrading fuel lines again--I'm concerned about the high flow at idle and low rpms.

Re: Evo X upgrades

You need a BAP on a Bosch? I don't remember all your fuel issues, but that doesn't seem necessary. The Bosch is run on countless road race and rally cars, I have a hard time believing it's a weak point.

That Weldon pump may become more of a headache than it's worth(tuning wise), but who knows, maybe Shane has some experience with it on a street car?

There's something really weird about the X because it always seems to need way more pump than any other Mitsu. First we ran out of 1000cc injector around 410whp @DB and then we ran out of pump.

As you know, this is my second 044 so I know damn well it isn't the pump. The Bosch-brand 044 couldn't break 400 even with a BAP. I'm now running an turbine-based 044 knock-off from Jay Racing. It's fine during regular driving and on the dyno but not extended periods at 17.5volts.

Why? The traditional approach is dual pumps but many people argue that they aren't as safe as running a larger single pump. I could also go to dual Walbros, which is what most X owners do. It's just not convenient given the surge tank setup that I already own.

You'll also have to define 'street car' for me. My life would be easy if I didn't take the car to road courses. It's perfectly fine on the street since it's impossible to stay in boost for 10+minutes there.

There are worse things then tuning to waste money on...your car still works yet again lol

But it could be a good idea to test the bosch alone but a permanent solution is a good idea that you know will work.

Re: Evo X upgrades

After exchanging emails with Shane, I'm leaning toward a dual 044 setup with the secondary pump on a Hobbs switch. I already have the two pumps and a Hobbs so just need a tank. This company has an interesting offering and it already has the -6an fittings that I need.

Bah, I haven't decided how I'll go yet. I'm looking around at options. Weldon got back to me and said they have many people road-racing with their 2015 pump...it was more or less designed for that since it's continuous duty and supposedly has no flow drop off all the way to 160psi, which is redonk.

Re: Evo X upgrades

Another thought is that the problem is actually related to fuel pickup and that Full Blown hanger. If the surge tank were to empty then it'd suffer a fuel pressure problem that'd also solve itself once the tank refilled. The symptoms don't exactly make sense for that but I will unload the hanger if a new pump setup doesn't square things away.

I got a few laps in. A $500 visit for a dozen laps isn't a great value but it's a good excuse for wings & beer with my brother.

I've been talking to Weldon today and they are very helpful. I think I'll order that up. I will also set it up so I can easily re-enable the second in-tank pump the next time that I'm at the track.

I'll keep plugging away at it. It's too much fun not to.

Re: Evo X upgrades

How about selling your FB hangar for a stock housing + cash, then going with a slightly simpler setup? DW300 feeding your surgetank which then feeds the injectors with the Jays?

The stock pump should fill the surge tank just fine. I want to keep the FB hanger if it isn't the issue because I like AN fittings and it'd require quite a bit of rewiring to go back to stock. I've never been comfortable with the BAP...I'd rather have a pump that actually meets the demand.

I'm not aware of anyone that has done a DW300 pump, either. I'll let Scheides be the guinea pig on that. If the 044 isn't enough for my setup then I doubt the DW pump would be, either...they are both 300lph pumps.

You need a level indicator for your surge tank I think Then you'd know exactly what the problem is.

haha. Wouldn't that be nice? You'd pretty much need a surge tank with a fuel level sender built into it, which doesn't exist.

I'm going to order a Weldon today. If that doesn't solve it then there's nothing left to do but get rid of the in-tank hanger. For what it'd cost me to get a stock hanger it might make as much sense to find someone that can sump the tank for me. I'll ask around about that when it comes to that.

Re: Evo X upgrades

A flow chart for the Jay Racing "342," which is their competitor to the DW300. I've ordered one of these and I'm going to pull the two 255s out of my Full Blown double-pump that is in the tank. This beast flows over 400lph at low pressures (to fill the surge tank) so having duals would be silly. I think I'll just use the Hobbs switch for the second pump to activate the Weldon pump speed controller when I put that in.

I've been doing a bit of research into installing a collector in the stock gas tank--either a plastic ATL one or having something welded into the tank. I hope it doesn't come down to that kind of craziness.

A custom version of this that is small enough to fit down the pump hole is a thought:

I also found out that they make a complete fuel tank replacement cell. It's only suitable for track-only vehicles and race gas. It's interesting, nonetheless.
