evo 16g turbo not spooling till 3k rpm.

Evo 16g turbo not spooling till 3k rpm. Is that normal?

-I have a feeling he bought a knock off evo 16g off ebay...not the real MHI turbo. Anyone have experiences with these knockoffs?

Re: evo 16g turbo not spooling till 3k rpm.

I have a evo 3 16G and mine build at least 5 psi by about 2600 2700 and just about full boost at 3k so it doesn't seem like its a knock of. Check the housing or so for the number.

How much psi are you running? And do you have any exhaust leaks? What excactly do you mean by not spooling untill 3000RPM what psi does it hit by 3k?

Boost gauge is broken. I still have to buy a new one. I just remember my old 2g powered by a T25 spooling so much quicker or should i say sooner then this 16g. There so much to fix on this 2g...sigh. Not sure why i bought someone elses headache.

Oh, and i am a total noob at dsm's. Had my last one for less than a year before i traded it in for a Lexus. Biggest mistake of my life.

Re: evo 16g turbo not spooling till 3k rpm.

You can tell it's a knockoff by the serial number. What kind of mods do you have? Is your manifold, o2 housing ported? Mine didn't get full spool till literally at 3k...should be sooner but I dont think my o2 and manifold is ported. I'm sure once you port the exhaust manifold and o2 housing, the e316g should spool right under the 3k mark.

side note: I remember taking my friends for a drive in my car asking me if it was normal for the turbo to spool that quickly

Re: evo 16g turbo not spooling till 3k rpm.

DONT EVEN COMPARE A 16G to a 14B! I just put in a fresh rebuild 14B and OMG the spool is ridiculously quicker! At partial throttle i could stay at about 15-20 vaccum with the 14b try more like 10-5 its quite different. Highway speeds it spools to quick though talking about the 14B. Yes 16G's spool right around 3k

T25 vs E316G is apples to oranges. I hit full boost around 3K-3400 RPM. Like AWD-Drifter said check the serial number. Maybe post up a few pictures so we can confirm.

3000rpm is normal for 17-18psi pump gas, not sure what is normal for ~25psi on an e85 tune. shane posted one a while ago.

Re: evo 16g turbo not spooling till 3k rpm.

Mine spools really quick, and I'm only running 10psi with no tune. Of course I'm used to an FP3575 on a 2.4, so this seems ridiculously quick spooling.

on a e316g the wastegate arm is one piece, on a knock of its an adjustable arm. that being said i ran an ebay knock off for a year or 2 untill it literally fell apart and while it ran it spooled just like a normal e316g

Yeah, i checked it out. It is the ebay knock off one. I'll have to save up for the real deal.

You guys are right. Took it out for a spin friday night. I LOVE the power from the E316g.

Re: evo 16g turbo not spooling till 3k rpm.

The Evo3 16g is 3 times the size the a T25, so it's gonna be a little laggier. 3000 RPMs is considered extremely fast spooling.

Re: evo 16g turbo not spooling till 3k rpm.

I've seen a few threads like this on tuners and now here. Since when is full boost by 3k slow? I had a small 16g on my last car, and saw 25psi at or around 3k. If you want a faster spooling 16g, put it on a 2.4l, should spool fast enough

I see 24 psi on my e3 16g around 2700 in 5th gear but I know my intercooler has a crack in it....
