That sucks, but I really hope you're not expecting someone to warranty a 3-year old tranny used for racing. Shit happens, parts break, wallet gets thinner, all part of the car game.

Re: My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3
As far as fluid goes, the better protection it seems, the notchier the shifting is because of the lubricity of the fluid. Either way you lose.
If you look at the picture of the gears, the 4th gear on the left that is busted is most liklely the original that came with the transmission, which is the counter shaft, or intermediate shaft. The one on the right is on the input shaft, which should be the stronger gear (HD gear or Evo III), but it appears it is the culprit and took out the intermediate gear.

Re: My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3
Did it take anything else out that you can see? You could replace the bellhousing, intermediate shaft and the 4th gear, and then reshim it to spec.
I have a spare bellhousing, then your looking at 250$ for a intermediate shaft and 98$ for the 4th gear, as long as everything else is ok. Did it chip the front diff drive gear at all?

The major stuff looks ok, but there is metal everywhere. I mean I don't think it would be a good idea. The big ring gear thing looks fine. The diffs look fine also. I'd be worried about the metal. Opinions?
New bearings?
And I kinda got pissed when I took it apart and pryed on some stuff I maybe shouldnt have... I was a little mean to the case, and a gear or two.

Re: My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3
Just inspect the bearing rollers for pitting/scoring, if there not they are usually ok. It is a good idea though to replace them anyways if you need to reshim a transmission.
As far as other gears go, they are probably ok, but could possible have cracks the eyes cant see, but I doubt it.
Im guessing you were mean to 5th gear with a couple of pry bars

Haha, uh yeah. I didn't have a gear puller that was thin enough to to pull the gear off the shaft. So I unbolted the entire case, and pounded the case to start pushing on the gear. Eventually I got enough room to throw the puller on. HAHA I just said, "Eff it, this is junk now anyways!"
Hmm, what is the best source for these tranny parts? Case, gear, etc?

And yes, I beat on this thing sometimes.
Used Penzoil Syncromesh. I have tried the redline cocktail and didn't like it.

That syncromesh is terrible for our transmissions. Redline light weight shock proof is what Shep tells everyone to run now. I've had it in my trans for the last two summers and its made a huge difference!! Sorry to see your trans failed!! I've been talking to Shep for the last couple of weeks about trans options for my car. He said, if I went with a stage 4, that I'd get like 100-200 passes out of it. Then he said that I should send it back to him and have the 4th gear replaced. I'm seeing why he suggested that now. Good luck bro!!

TRE recommends Redline MT90 also.

Re: My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3
I use the Redline Heavy Shock proof in my rear-end. I will have to call Shep and get some suggestions. I just don't like the idea of "disposible transmissions" lol... Time for a new platform?

Dog box, ftw. heh, I just roasted the scm61 again. disposable trannys, disposable turbos. Shit all wears out fast at 500-600hp.

Re: My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3
The Stage 3 is our most popular street strip trans. It is intended for those 400-600 hp street /strip cars that still want a fully streetable trans. without the worries of shattering your weak 3-4 sleeve or leaving your stock center diff guts all over the track PLEASE NOTE: All of our stage 3's now include a new intermediate shaft.
Included Features:
New 1-2 Fork
New 3-4 Fork
New Shep Trans Spec 2nd Gear
New 1-2 Hub/Sleeve kit with Double Synchro Rings
New 1-2-3-4-5-R Synchro Springs
New 5th Gear Synchro Rings
New Input, Output, and both Drive Shaft Seals
New Input Shaft Bearings
New Intermediate Gear Bearings
New Roll Pins
New End Nuts
New Center Diff Side Shims
New Nylon Shifter Pad
Shims for setting preload
Upgraded Torrington Bearing
Bead Blasted Case
4 Spider Center Differential
Heavy Duty 3-4 Conversion
Transmission filter upgrade
Upgraded Rare Earth Magnet
1990 pricing
NEW INTERMEDIATE SHAFT
I don't know, I would at least ask Shep what went wrong... As a transmission performance business, I am sure that they would like to know. It is not everyday that something like that happens. That way they can prevent whatever went wrong. That looks like it needed a scatter shield
It is supposed to take the HP. 3 years and only 15,000 miles isn't that much.
That is if you weren't beating on it and grinding every gear. But it sounds like you wanted a good reliable trans

Re: My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3
For two or three years the car made 200hp and I drive it 75% like a granny and 25% beating the hell out of it. It has seen many launches and stuff. I know how to row through the gears without grinding or being a dumbass?
Only in the last year, definately less than 10,000 miles, more like 7,000 of dynojet corrected 400ft-lbs and 520awhp. I bought this tranny thinking it would last, unrealistically, like, forever lol.
wtf, mate.

Re: My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3
I would be in the same boat as you. If I spent that much money on a tranny that's supposed to hold my power, I would expect it to last the life of the damn car haha. Given you take care of it and shift it correctly. Which it sounds like you have..

Re: My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3
I destroyed my TRE tranny on it's 3rd pass down the track. Fixed it then it ripped apart on the dyno after a few pulls.

Re: My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3
My TRE trans is still here, I got it because I was scared my $20 trans wouldnt make it down to TX, I am a dumbass.
My TRE is amazing falls into gear with ease, held up to launches and highway runs just fine and the taller 5th has given me a noticable mpg increase plus it still pulls if you ever need to shift into 5th lol

Re: My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3
The transmission worked great for a very long time. Only in one day did things go bad.
Why should I be happy my tranny lasted three years, 2/3s at stock power levels, and 1/3 at double stock power levels?
