Transfer Case and Rear Diff rebuilding
Does anyone know of anywhere locally that I could get my Transfer Case and 4-bolt Rear rebuilt so they are good as new? My plan was to just send them to TRE and have him freshen them up, but if there is somewhere local that does good work, I'd rather do that to save on shipping expenses.
I don't believe there is actually anything wrong with them, but I got this 4-bolt rear and have no idea what condition it is in, how much it was beat on in the past, so before I spend all the time to install it, I'd be comfortable knowing it's "good as new". And my transfer case, well it's got 100k on it, and the last few times I drained my fluid out, it always had a little bit of a metalic look to it. So I'd like to get it just refreshened back to "good as new" condition.
These are really the only mods the Talon is seeing over the winter.
If there isn't anywhere good to take them locally, then I'll probably just end up sending them to TRE.

Why not jacks?
I hate TRE right below SLS for customer service I would say.

Re: Transfer Case and Rear Diff rebuilding
Whoa, what happened with TRE and you?
TRE, in my small amount of dealings, has been good to me. Plus they are the closest of all the options which is a plus to me. I've also dealt with DogBox fairly recently. If they were more local, they'd be the only ones I'd go to because their prices are right, and they were what I'd consider above and beyond when it came to communication. He sat on the phone with me for an hour one day and answered every question I threw at him, and then just bullshitted with me and told me some good Waffle House stories.
Jacks, when I tried to talk with him long ago about a tranny rebuild, he answered my first email. But every subsequent email I sent him with questions, were never responded to. So he fell off my radar.
BUT, ideally I'd rather just go to somewhere local that can do it, and I can be confident they know what they are doing. Not sure if there is anywhere locally though that really are experts at rebuilding these.

Ask Shane, he has some local place that rebuilds transmissions for him.

Re: Transfer Case and Rear Diff rebuilding
I'd send them to Shep and get the EVO3 rear end upgrade. I rebuilt my rear pumpkin last winter and it was a PITA.

Re: Transfer Case and Rear Diff rebuilding
I bought my trans from him in april, and I have tried numerous emails and phone calls and nothing to get a receipt.

Re: Transfer Case and Rear Diff rebuilding
Not to jack the thread, how has your service been with all these other tranny shops anyone? I've only dealt with Shep. Good customer service, but well my tranny blew up for some reason (still havent checked 3 months later) and im kinda meh.

What level Shep trans do you have. Some rebuild are just glorified stock trannies.

Re: Transfer Case and Rear Diff rebuilding
Stock tranny is pretty much all most people need. Add a 4-spider to a stock build and that should hold quite a bit.
As for my dealings. I think the best customer service I've had was Dogbox. But they are on the east coast so shipping is a little bit more. My dealings with TRE personally were great too. Sucks to hear about your dealings Aaron. Wonder what happened to him?

Is that supposed to be a bad thing? Most of the "upgrades" aren't actually much of an upgrade at all.

Re: Transfer Case and Rear Diff rebuilding
Perhaps evo III gears, double syncros, steel rails, shift forks, and 4 spider diff. Of course shimming makes a good tranny a great tranny. (something like that)
Thats all i know of.
