I don't know if I would say any after market gauges are a "must" for start up. Just make sure your stock oil pressure gauge works, your stock water temp gauge works, and make sure the thing isn't super rich.

I had a prosport in my car and really liked the peak/warn function on it, that way you could keep your eyes on other gauges or the road. The only down side is that it only goes up to 30psi, so I sold it and picked up a used aem boost gauge. I really like the aem boost gauge because it was just a tiny bit more expensive than picking up a brand new AEM 5 bar map sensor and I can log and there was no real added cost when I went speed density. I also have the aem wide band gauge which I really like because I can log that too.
