Re: Heard about a cool evo build?

I was wondering if that was Kasey's Evo 8 that was parked in there on the dyno day. I know that they bolted their prototype turbo on an 8 as well. Maybe that's what they're working on?

I half way kind of sort of work there. lol. All the original map guys have been life long close friends. I've worked there on and off.

I'd share but, I'd rather let Chris.

Re: Heard about a cool evo build?

It's an Evo 9 RS that made its way up here from North Carolina, we're shooting for the stock ECU record (again) and 800+whp MAP 2.3L / Stage 5 Cylinder Head / Billet 6765...more info coming soon

Re: Heard about a cool evo build?

Is that thermal dispersant on the inlet side of the turbo and the intercooler piping? Or is the thermal dispersant only on the intake manifold and a thermal barrier on the piping and turbo?

Re: Heard about a cool evo build?

The intercooler piping and compressor cover are just powder coated I believe.

Re: Heard about a cool evo build?

Would the inlet side and intercooler piping benefit from the thermal dispersant coating though like the intake manifold does? Would seem to make sense, since its suppose to pull heat out of something where powder coat traps it in.

Or does that thermal coating mainly work on heat exchanging things like a FMIC, Radiator, Oil Cooler, Intake Manifold, etc.

Re: Heard about a cool evo build?

The intake manifold touches the head, IC piping doesn't really get that hot. I doubt there would be noticeable gains.

Correct. IC piping is powdercoated, as is the comp cover, and the rest of the exhaust components and turbine housing are ceramic coated.

Makes sense and now after visiting MAP's website I have learned more about the coatings.

Thermal Dispersant is something you put on an Intake Manifold to help dissipate heat, where a Thermal Barrier is something you put on the Intake Manifold flange to prevent heat transfer from the head.

The thermal dispersant works best when there is any kind of airflow moving over it so whether or not we choose to use that coating, is pretty much application specific. In general though, we see +20-24% increase in cooling from the coating.

Actually the dispersant was originally designed for the military application of gun barrel cooling and was extremely effective. This technology eventually found its way into the automotive market as an aid for heat exchangers like oil coolers, radiators, and transmission coolers. Good stuff for sure.

Re: Heard about a cool evo build?

Thanks Bob, answered everything I need to know! Thermal sprayed intercooler and piping would be worth it than on the application I have. I will be stopping by MAP over the summer once the snowmobile season is over to get lots of cold parts coated for my turbo snowmobile.
