New ride off craigslist

I just picked up an amazing deal off craigslist.

-93 Red summit 3-door.
-1.8L 5-speed.
-One spot of rust.
-4 new tires
-tow hitch (class II)

126,000

He was asking $200, I was a total a**hole and got him down to $160, I feel so bad *not*

Transmission goes into 1234 no 5 or R

I assume the issue with the transmission is the nut that backs off all DSM transmissions, i know this is a CSM, but w/e....does anyone have any experience with these?

not bad the nut does back off them. If it ends up being a tranny problem you will have a hard time finding one. the 1.8 csm are hard to find a 1.8 5 speed hydro tranny

Re: New ride off craigslist

I actually had the nut completely just shear off with part of the shaft still in it on one of my transmissions

Re: New ride off craigslist

90% of the csm use a cable clutch style tranny and the 1.8 5speeds with the hydo tranny (just like dsm's) are very hard to find not many were made

Re: New ride off craigslist

Holy crap TKR FTW.

I have done a clutch on one of these f*uckers before, from what I remember it did NOT have a cable, it had a hydraulically actuated slave cylinder.

I could be wrong, ill check.

Will any FWD DSM/CSM transmission work? out of a 1.6/1.8/2.0/2.4?

Re: New ride off craigslist

Double check that there is a proper crush washer on the reverse light switch. Without it, you cannot get into 5th or reverse. Must be like at least .100" or taller.

Re: New ride off craigslist

The owner did not do any work on it, he invested a crap ton in it, when it stopped going into 5 and R he brought it to a transmission shop, they quoted him $1200, he gave up on it.

Thanks for the info sleepy, its good to know

I am pretty sure your answer is no. You should have waited to buy one. I will be selling my shell when I get my ass outside to take pics and come up with a price. Mine is a 4G61T and already had a dsm motor in it. It is also going to come with an aftermarket exhaust, guages, a walbro pump, and aftermarket rims. If your plans are 4G63, it won't jsut drop into that car without modification.

My plans are FUEL ECONOMY.

I am going to try to re-attach the nut that may have spun off, and hopefully, that should fix the issue.

Re: New ride off craigslist

you can use a 1.8 or 1.5 mirage tranny bolt in
the dsm 1.8,2.0,2.4 will not work on the csm 1.8
but if you go to a 4g63 you can use
dsm 1.8
csm 1.5 with n/a 4g63 fly and clutch
csm 1.8 with n/a 4g63 fly and clutch
2g fwd turbo tranny bolt in
1g fwd turbo or n/a will need custom mounts (that i make)

to put a 4g63 in it. you will need 2g block mount and upper engine mount ,or the same set out of a 4g64 galant. 1g awd mount the bolts to the tranny. take out the 1.8 tranny mount that is on the frame and flip it 180 and bolt it back on. roll stops work for 2g trannys other wise you will need to make or buy mount for a 1g tranny

Re: New ride off craigslist

it can be done but, it is a pain in the ass. you need the awd 6 bolt block mounts, modbthe roll stop brace and make mounts. it would be cheaper to get a 2g tranny.
