Re: Little. Blue. Different.

I seriously thought about putting an IX turbo on anna's GLI, there's room for it and that 2.0 direct injection motor would do well with a twin-scroll turbo. You should see what that thing does with a little gt28rs and a good tune. 300wtq (mustang) from 3100-6500.

Aaron, they do: http://blouchturbo.com/turbos/Eclipse_Dominator_II/
Search their site, there's more. The problem is, I haven't heard squat about them. Their dom2 for the evoX is pretty awesome though, stock appearing and buschur made 400whp (mustang) with his, 25psi on pump gas. When I saw that, I seriously considered an X for the first time.

Re: Little. Blue. Different.

Update, I hit the dyno. Unfortunately I'm not near the numbers I expected; fortunately, I hit the dyno just before installing the BBK for a baseline, and I'm up 50whp from my stock IX turbo. Unfortunately during the baseline I was down 60whp from the last time I was on this dyno, so I am at a bit of a dejected spot right now. The car is still fun as hell though, and with the alky on its never felt like it does now. At 7500rpms I'm up about 85whp.

Stay tuned...

Re: Little. Blue. Different.

The power up top sounds good, i wouldn't feel bad about that.

Brah, that turbo is $1400, i got what i hope is perfect bolt on for $400, new its $900ish with oil lines and crap.

Keep us updated.

I'm just starting to look for answers. Unfortunately I planned this right before a vacation so I don't know how much investigating I'll get to do. I think its been down on power since last summer though, august or september. I made 378whp on MAPs dyno day in the fall and thought it was low for having just made 360whp on DB's DD dyno, but had never been on there before and chalked it up to my awesome luck. After doing HG, Water pump, timing stuff, cams, springs, and having gosh go over the head, I made 380whp on E85 on MAPs dyno in January. Aside from power profile changing a bit due to the cams, no major change in power there.

The car has been burning a bit of oil since the headgasket swap last fall (possible it could have started before that, I don't recall). I had the FMIC off last summer and thought maybe I had left a shop towel in the fmic inlet, but I took all of the ic piping out and checked all of it, and from what I can see there's no debris anywhere that I can see. I am 99.999% sure the FMIC is fine but there's an ounce of lingering doubt that it could be the issue.

Compression a month ago was like 175 170 165 170, gonna do it again to verify as well as do a leak-down test.

Re: Little. Blue. Different.

I'm sorry homes.
Anywho, 85whp up top is sick. DYNO GRAPH?
I would of loved 20whp from 6k up to 7500, but 85 is like a new car/turbo.

Anywho, stay tuned i'm finally starting to get over the pain so hopefully soon.

Re: Little. Blue. Different.

Here it is. It's a sad state of affairs. Top graph is from last friday; bottom is from about a month prior (so this is a direct before/after with the stock IX turbo vs BBK):

Yet, here is where I was about a 8 months ago (with stock IX turbo):

Re: Little. Blue. Different.

huh, weird how you lost power. i mean from months ago not even comparing the new turbo.

Anywho, looks like a nice gain if your mysterious loss wouldn't of occured then maybe 400 would of been attainable.

Re: Little. Blue. Different.

That is weird. The before/after boost with the IX turbo looks almost identical. And it doesn't seem like the IX turbo was that bad.

Do you know what compression was last year?

Re: Little. Blue. Different.

Are you POSITIVE the timing belt isn't off a tooth? That could explain it. Compression seems decent, so that shouldn't be it and if you had the head done, then the leak down should come back ok unless the rings are shot, but that isn't real likely. I am sure you have done a boost leak test, right?

Re: Little. Blue. Different.

Compression was almost identical last year, and shane and I checked the timing on the dyno, it was good. Yes I've done several boost leak tests; I almost always do before going to the dyno; the only time I didn't was before my session a few weeks ago, and guess what I did when I got home and guess what I found? A few small leaks, nothing catastrophic though. I thought the IX turbo was going out but it looks now as though its fine.

Re: Little. Blue. Different.

Have you checked to see if the car is pulling timing for some reason? I would do another compression test just to be sure. The problem seems weird though.

Re: Little. Blue. Different.

Yup, these are fully tuned maps, no knock, no timing pull. When we first flipped on the alky, the car hit like 340whp at like 5800rpms and literally held it flat until 7300rpms, like it had just hit a wall for airflow or something.

Re: Little. Blue. Different.

You checked the timing belt timing on the dyno or the ignition timing?

Re: Little. Blue. Different.

Timing belt timing. I don't think there's a way to set base timing on an evo, like you would on a DSM. The CAS is not adjustable.
