Re: need new tires what to get?

Don't drive summer tires in the winter. It's 200% stupid, you can do it, but its dangerous. I've been there, and yes its possible but it was only due to circumstances. If you're buying tires for all around performance summer & winter, just get a nice set of all-seasons. I had the continentals mentioned above on my evo for 2 winters, half a summer, a few falls and a few springs. They're great all-around all-season tires.

Depending on what size you want they're around $100/tire, pretty great bang/buck

I've heard that the Sumitomo HTR+ all-seasons are decent too, but I've never used them personally.

Others will have plenty of opinions to add to this discussion (kracka) I'm sure

What to say what to say...

For a high-performance all-season tire I'd look towards Kumho or Yokohama as they both make multiple variants that would fit the bill. BFGoodrich tires aren't too bad but they lack tight quality control so don't be surprised if at least 1 of your 4 is defective is one way or another. Sumitomo all-seasons are nothing special (their summer tires are great though). Goodyear tires are over-priced and under-perform.

Keep in mind though, no all-season tire will be excellent at anything; they'll be ok, good if you're lucky, but a far stretch from great at anything. I suggest what other people are saying and picking up a cheap set of stock wheels for some snow tires (the cheapest winter tire will far outperform the best all-season in snow and on ice). Whatever you do though, do not attempt to drive on summer tires through the winter.
