Help identify center diff

can anybody tell me, is there a way to identify if a center diff is 2 or 4 spider without opening the tranny?

I just bought a trans, and want to confirm that it is correct.

Re: Help identify center diff

yes, this is a shep trans.

And no, this is a different trans than your buddies. I was leaning towards that one, until I discovered I needed a new t-case as well. So, I found somebody selling a matched setup, and just went for it.

I'm pretty sure its the real deal. Right box, paperwork, and tranny is obviously freshly built based even on appearance alone. I just looked in at the center diff, and from what I remember, it looks just like my stock trans did. I assumed it would look different. So I was hoping somebody could tell me how to tell before I install it tomarrow.

How did you look at the center diff without opening it up?

Re: Help identify center diff

ya know what. That's an f-en good point. I'm sitting here staring at the front diff like an idiot. God I need a drink now!

Thanks for the reality check ecoli! I'll just slap the damn thing in!

Re: Help identify center diff

Both the front diff and the Center diff are inside the transmission, there is no real way to verify that he actually has done the mod to it.

Here is what you should do: make sure you know how to reach the seller and put the 4-spider diff to the test! to a 9-grand dump with sticky sticky tires, if the transmission blows up, it will be easy to see that the center diff failed (if it is a 2-spider).

or you could always take the transmission apart, its not that hard.
