My Craftsman 1.5 ton (3000lb) died in a year. Replaced the hydrolic fluid with brake fluid and it has worked awesome for the last 6 years I've owned it.

If I was to ever buy another jack, I would replace all the fluid right away. But thats just me. Just because I've seen how well brake fluid works compared to jack oil.

Think about how many times a car uses the brakes in its life time. Normally you dont change the fluid more than a couple times in a cars life, if ever.

I dont know if that is correct, but just my thought on it. Makes somewhat sense to me I guess.
