Opinions On Floor Jacks
I need some opinions.
My jack took a shit on me and instead of trying to fix it I just want to buy a new one. I want a low prfile jack so I can jack up some slammed honduhs :). I was going to get a 2 ton craftsman but I have heard bad things(last less then a 1.5 years). Also was looking at an OTC one but thats a bit expensive. Im looking to spend under $200 for sure. Let me know what experience you guys have. |
Re: Opinions On Floor Jacks
I have a 2.5 ton low profile Craftsman jack and I'm happy with it. My first Craftsman jack held a car off the ground over a winter outside so I don't have any complaints.

Re: Opinions On Floor Jacks
My Craftsman 1.5 ton (3000lb) died in a year. Replaced the hydrolic fluid with brake fluid and it has worked awesome for the last 6 years I've owned it.
If I was to ever buy another jack, I would replace all the fluid right away. But thats just me. Just because I've seen how well brake fluid works compared to jack oil. |

Re: Opinions On Floor Jacks
Napa offers a nice low profile 2.5 or 2 ton jack for about 200 I think. I could probably even get it a tad cheaper for you if I went in with you.
I believe it is a lifetime warranty too. |

I dont know if that is correct, but just my thought on it. Makes somewhat sense to me I guess. |
Re: Opinions On Floor Jacks
I got a nice aluminum one at Northern Tool for under $200. I think this is the one I have, I can't see if it is the twin pump one or not, I have the twin.

My friend has a harbor freight jack that has done him well. |

It's 2 years old, and I think I need to change the fluid now. Guess I'll try the brake fluid swap you guys are talking about. |
Re: Opinions On Floor Jacks
After several crappy 2-tons I bought a craftsman 3 ton. It's held up for a year or two now and seems to be doing great. The nice thing is it was pretty cheap (~$50 on sale, maybe $70 normally).

Re: Opinions On Floor Jacks
I currently have this one:
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...Lift+Equipment and love it! I went through 2 other craftsman jacks within a matter of 2 months each. They were black and yellow and around 100. This one has been going great for almost a year and it jacks up very fast. |

Here's a good review/comparison:
http://www.vorshlag.com/tech_jacks6.php If you work in the shop a lot and don't plan on getting a lift anytime soon, the AC Hydraulics DK13HLQ is worth the money. http://www.evomn.net/cd/pics/acjack.jpg |
Re: Opinions On Floor Jacks
You put brake fluid in worn out hydraulic jacks to swell up the o-ring seals. I don't recommend putting brake fluid in new jacks.
