How shit is E70? now that we have had some time.
How much shittier is (E70) winter blend E85 compared to summer E85?
Now that we have had some time to retune cars and what not.
My experience is that i switched to the 61 and made 8hp and lost 10+tq, but i had the same issue with boost falling off like the 16G.

How junky is it? Has anyone tuned a car to it yet to see how bad it really is? I mean maybe you can't run as much boost or pull timing back a bit?
Where's Jim, i want to see his car's tune on some straight E70 and see how rich it gets and if it knocks at all. I know Shane tuned him on spring blend for afr of like 11.3:1 or so, and then on the summer blend he was up to like 11.9 or 12:1 afr, and then back down to low 11's on the fall blend...if he runs 10.7-10.8:1 afr on the winter stuff and is able to run the same amount of boost and timing w/o knock, that would be really cool!

I had a "E-85" evo on the dyno and we switched gas stations.
Car moved .7afr instantly and I had to pull 5+ degrees of timing just from the octane change fun stuff.
Brownman was on the dyno with the 61, him and john were tuning the dsmlink, and got marginal gains, they are contributing it to the fuel.
E-70 isn't very high octane at all considering E-85 is 105 octane tops.

Thanks for the good answer man! Very interesting on the amount of timing pull....how much boost was this on?

Yikes, Scheides, want to pull a log off my car on the winter blend and see if she is knocking? I have stayed out of the boost for the last month or so and hope to put the car asleep for the winter soon.

Well, it more like going under the knife for winter.
JDM rear bumper, clutch, and o2 housing are a few of the things that are going to be tackled.
Sunday night sounds good, I'll give you a call.

Re: How shit is E70? now that we have had some time.
I have been getting 73% from Kwik Trip that is pretty decent. I'm still running the tune I made 380whp on E78 with. There is a some knock occasionally gunning it at low rpm that I need to get rid of, think I just need to lower my boost spike a little.
Holiday however is selling some really shitty 68-69% stuff that knocks like crazy, I was lowering the boost to 25psi and pulling 4-5* of timing and still knocking. I quit trying to tune for it when I found Kwik Trip still had good stuff.

Re: How shit is E70? now that we have had some time.
I dont get why some of the winter blend stuff is so crappy? It should still have a high latent heat for good knock quench. I'm running such a tiny volume of ally in my car and I can still run plenty of timing and 26 psi of boost with no knock. Is it just mixed with 80 octane gas or what?

Re: How shit is E70? now that we have had some time.
I think the Kwik Trip stuff must be mixed with higher octane gas than what Holiday has. I dont think the difference in just the ethanol % can explain it, since I can pretty much run my 78% tune on the Kwik Trip 73% stuff.
Kwik Trip sells E85 instead of premium on all their pumps, and Holiday has a single separate pump for E85. Wonder if Holiday is buying pre-mixed stuff and Kwik Trip mixes it at the pump when you buy it? I dunno but it is definitely a lot different.

Did you notice any smell difference? The E85 I have gotten from Holiday always had a corn smell, while the E85 I got from Bobby and Steve has a much different and bad smell. I ran the Bobby & Steves, if I was going to be racing, because the car felt good on it.

Do you have a tactrix cable Jim? Log that Holiday stuff and then try Kwik Trip. Where's Bobby & Steve's?
