Cams? valve springs?

Hey everyone well I was wondering do I need to change anything necessary in the car if I want to install my DKS cams? I heard on other forums that changing the valve springs is necessary? Is this true?

PS:
Any suggestions on what I need to upgrade would be great thanks.

Re: Cams? valve springs?

What cams do you have? People have ran 272's on stock springs without problems. I personally chose to upgrade mine though, since my head had quite a few miles on it, and it was off at the time. So it was a convenient time to do it for me, and cheap insurance in case my valves were fairly worn since my car is 16 years old. Now I shouldn't have to worry about valve float what-so-ever.

Which DKS cams? How high do you want to rev it.

With those cams spinning to stock 7k I would leave your stock springs. If you are spinning to 8k+ I would upgrade for sure.

What turbo are you going to run? The small 16g on pump gas?

Is there really a reason to rev that high? Seems like that 16g would run out of steam that high, maybe not though?

Re: Cams? valve springs?

I would say it won't be benefitial to rev over 7500rpm on your turbo and intake manifold setup.

Our new set of high-rev valve springs will be available shortly.

Re: Cams? valve springs?

I know a guy that pushed stock springs and retainers on 272's to 8200 for several years with no problems. I, however, wouldnt do it.

Swanny, whats the deal on your "high rev valve springs"? Single or dual? Price?

Single setup. These should work a bit better than the Crower (not BC) springs.

The only issue is the chrome moly retainers versus Titanium. Thanks to China, Titanium is VERY difficult to aquire, and thus prices has went up.

Kits should be mid $200's, finalized pricing is being worked on after shipping and a big bulk purchase.

Re: Cams? valve springs?

I wouldn't bother with the higher revs either, you're not going to see any gain with that little turbo.

Re: Cams? valve springs?

I agree with Goat Blower. The turbo is to small and will run out of steam. Do you have an eprom ECU to take the rev off? If you have not tune the car yet. It would be best just to spend the money on tuning vs springs. Or save the money for a bigger turbo like a 50trim.

Re: Cams? valve springs?

yes brian, I'd say the same. You can get some good power outta the 16g and mild cams, like 264's or something in that area.

Go for the 272's and clip that turbo.
