Lets see if my tattoo threads gets as many views as Tauni's...
Welp, I finally did it. Got this done a couple days ago, have wanted to get it done for a couple years, finally had the right financial situation to make it happen.
4 and a half hours under the needle and this is what I ended up with. I am very pleased, one of the trickiest things with celtic work is the lines and how parallel they have to be, since if one is off, you have to keep compensating, and it adds up after a while. Anyway, this is kind of a poor quality picture, so needless to say, it looks a lot better in person.
P.S. I might be pale, but I am not that pale in real life, thats the lighting fucking with ya.

That is a nice Celtic Knot you got there. You going to get more or is that just it?

Well, the plans for that cross itself include getting shading done where the knots "intersect" but since there are so many of those areas, that is actually quite a bit of work.
I have been thinking of adding to it on either side, making a piece that covers my entire upper back, but that will definately have to wait, but if/when it happens it will be some more celtic themed stuff for sure.

Sweet! I could see what you mean by to much work for the shading. I think Celtic Knots are cool looking. My Wife is big into them. Well she is part Irish. Anyways if you don't mind me asking how much was it?

Re: Lets see if my tattoo threads gets as many views as Tauni's...
$400 because the guy that did it was cool. His rate was $100 an hour, and he quoted me 4 hours, but some guys don't go by the quote, but rather by the clock, so he could have charged me $450.
Also, he is known as a "speed liner" his specialty is linework, so this was basically catering to his skills, I got quotes for the same drawing at anywhere from 5 to 6 hours, so it depends on who you go to, just try and find someone with celtic stuff in their portfolio, or PM me and I can get you this guys info.

I didn't realize you were so hardcore. Any meaning behind it?

Um, hopefully never... I dunno, probably towards the end of winter break so I don't have to deal with them for too long after they find out. Its gonna be interesting for sure.

I don't really think of myself as hardcore, but it is something I have always wanted to do. I am catholic and irish, so the meaning is there obviously, but also there is a lot of cool symbolism in the celtic art itself.
The knotwork represents the "neverending path" of life love and faith, and if you look closely you can see that each one of those knots is one line that continues forever. The Circles around the cross also represent enternity, and the celtic cross as a whole was place in the ground around Ireland and Scotland as a visible reminder of their faith.

Yea, that's excellent work by the artist. The price is pretty damn amazing also. I just got something down my side 3 days ago, and it cost me $380 and wasn't as detail-intensive.

Looks pretty cool, you'll have to post up some better quality pictures. Maybe do some poses and you'll get a few more views... but you'll never top Tauni's thread.

Yeah, I was really happy with the work. This guys portfolio was amazing, and he said his best aspect of his work was linework, so this really was catering to his abilities, so I was happy about that.
Man this thing is itchy now though. Gotta resist the urge to scratch it!!

Could you specify line work? I've been profiling artists for a long time trying to find one that will do a great job on some very 'flowing' script. Not sure if that would fall under line work.
And it looks great. Very symetrical and well balanced.

Re: Lets see if my tattoo threads gets as many views as Tauni's...
Linework would be anything that would be the lines of the tattoo. Basically not shading and color. He is good at everything, but he just said his specialty was linework.
He should be able to handle flowing script pretty well, his portfolio is damn good, so I wouldn't worry about much. Also, he is basically an all around amazing artist, he has pictures on the wall that he drew using just pencil, and they look like black and white photos.
Anyway, if anyone is interested, his name is Wade at Cloud 9, and Tell him Brian Kemmy sent you, he might not give a shit, but I would feel better having him know I am trying to send some referrals.
