95 Gsx Project
Like some thoughts and opinions... I recently bought this car and the engine seemed to take a crap on me, I dont really care since its a 7 bolt. I'm gonna buy a 6 bolt just a matter 2.4, 2.0, longblock or shortblock. I wanna be around 400-500 whp if not more. Problem is I have no time to build a motor, and was thinking about buying a build one from slowboy or bushur. I know im gonna run a turbo similar to the FP red, and prolly a stage 3 or 4 shep tranny, upgrade the driveline and axles. Any thing else you guys can think of lmk...this is not gonna be street friendly I assume. Oh and I forgot fuel and engine management also DSM LINK or AEM EMS Im not gonna play around with injectors either 1600cc all the way

Re: 95 Gsx Project
I wouldn't go with slowboy. Many people have had bad experiences with them. You could reach your goals on a stock 6 bolt if you wanted to save some money. Why would you want 1600's if you wouldn't need them? You shouldn't be anywhere close to needing them between 400 and 500 whp. I have seen 420 out of 550's. There is no point in running them just because you can. 2.4, 2.3, or 2.0 all depend on what you want out of the car (quicker spool or highter rpms).

Re: 95 Gsx Project
As to why you would buy an engine from Slowboy is beyond me. If you don't want to go with one of the site sponsors, go with Engintecs.

Re: 95 Gsx Project
I hear LSE builds a mean motor, might want to talk to them! They're local and good guys to work with!
Otherwise, bypass that slowboy idea and hit up buschur.
Then again, a stock 6-bolt might be up your alley too...cheap and reliable.

Re: 95 Gsx Project
well to answer some feed back 1600cc just cause you can control them and never have to upgrade again and I wasnt going with slowboy just threw it out there. I guess my goal is to make a 1/4 mile car 11s would prolly be good Ill look into the six bolt how much would have to be changed internally to run 30 psi... Ill hit up LSE before I do anything or talk to Shane.
Oh and 98GST 14b install are you doing it this weekend??? cause I dont think I will be around lmk

Re: 95 Gsx Project
11's can be done with a stock motor and a turbo smaller than the FP red. A t-25 ran a 11.14. It all depends on your setup.

Re: 95 Gsx Project
You could also try magnus / RRE if you don't plan to go local.

Re: 95 Gsx Project
For a fun street car go 2.3 or 2.4, you won't regret it.

Re: 95 Gsx Project
Ive reasearched a little more I think this is what Im gonna look for 2.4 longblock with an scm61 or FP green, big front mount and run DSMLINK and a MAF-T since I still have one laying around...also 1600cc will leave plenty of room for improvement

Re: 95 Gsx Project
My God this car is going to be a mess. 98GSX, seriously, please step back and do yourself a favor: re-evaluate these "monster" plans you have. I have been drooling and reading about DSMs since Allan owned his silver '97 GST (2000?) and finally own one as of July 2004 but even today, would not even think about taking on a project like you're talking about in this thread. What background do you have with modified DSMs that justifies the need to go HUGE?

Re: 95 Gsx Project
LSE will be building my motor as well. They don't have them just off the shelf and it won't happen overnight. I'm just all about keeping it local! Plus the fact I don't have to pay shipping fees is nice too.

Re: 95 Gsx Project
You can slap all the moster parts on a car you want and 1 of 3 things will happen. It will run pretty nice for a short while. It will run like complete shit from the get go. It will break very quick. Get the motor built by someone local, even spending a tad more with taxes and such by going through someone like DB or LSE will be worth it when you not think about a local company you can hold accountable for the work and workmanship. A motor from Marco would be nice and he does some crazy shit, but unless it's a motor going into a race only car everything is pretty routine on 4G63s and 4G64s after 15 years of these cars being around.
Your list of parts leaves way to much to the imagination. Longblock... lets think about this and what this includes. Everything from the oil pan to the valve cover. That's a shit ton of $$$ and parts to balance in the bottom end and valvetrain. Pistons, bearings, rods, deck height & headgaskets, cams, cam gears, and everything else as well as a possible porting needs or wants. Where's the suspension, new motor mounts, bushings, tie rods, axels, and other drivetrain parts that should be upgraded or replaced with new stuff when power is doubled?
Last thing, please put $300 - $800 away for good tuning. Let on of these shops that spent 5 figures on a dyno use it to save a setup you just dumped 10+ grand into. Dyno's are just around to show off power, it's an investment that saves consumers money and allows them to continue the upgrading process opposed to always fixing broken shit or starting over.

Re: 95 Gsx Project
Proly going with LSE or DB considering the price tag I just saw for a magnus crate motor $10000 wow thats just the motor not to mention like another $5000 for other parts like DSM STYLE had mentioned driveline, motor mounts, ect.
Jakey I dont think I really need to justify anything. I just dont want go 250hp, iwant more, 300hp I want more, 400 I want more, I want it to be fast as shit at the track. Also I bought this as a project its a 95 I also have owned my 98 for 2 years now so yeah, Im still learnng but I know alot more than I did
The 95 will barely be streetable is my goal, just enough to drive to the cookout every year

Re: 95 Gsx Project
I bet if you took a ride in a 400whp car, you would probably be holding the dash or handle on top.

Re: 95 Gsx Project
You could just run a stock motor, even a stock 7-bolt is capable of 400-500hp. The actual motor in my car is one of the cheaper parts, everything else you need to repair and support a 700hp car is what kills you.
You could just get 1000cc fuel injectors, they are big enough to get you into the 9s. You will need more than a Walbro 255HP to even max those.

Re: 95 Gsx Project
A good 2.4L with a nice size turbo and the right supporting mods/parts will make the power you want easilly. Pick the rpm range you want, pick the level of HP you want, etc and then build it for that.
