Re: Hydrogen Generator for my daily car
Alright, hydrogen has 3 times the energy stored in it (by weight) compared to gas. The molecular weight of oxygen is 16 and hydrogen is 1. H2O therefore weighs 18. The hydrogen in it weighs 2. So 2/18 = 11%.
Now we know that 11% of the weight of water is hydrogen. You have about a 2 liters (roughly a quart) of water in the storage unit and that is probably being generous. 1/2 gallon of water weighs 4.15lbs times 11% and you have .46 lbs of hydrogen in your storage tank.
We know that hydrogen has 3 times the heat output of gas, so you have the equivalent of 1.38 lbs of gas or just under 1/4 gallon of gasoline. So to see a 5% rise in MPG, you would have to fill your water tank for every 5 gallons of gas you burnt. That is if your car was setup to burn hydrogen. The problem is that hydrogen burns very quickly and needs to be ignited at TDC or later so you don't run into pre-ignition and just blow it back out the valves. Your car doesn't do this.
Need any more reason why there are skeptics who know it won't work?
