The chips in the ECU are permanently soldered in place, when you socket them, you remove the chip and solder a socket in its place, and the chip gets plugged back into the socket.This allows the chips to be easily removed and replaced.I live in St Paul Park, and I have a whole rail of 28 pin dip sockets.
