The top notch of the dipstick should be a bit more than 4.25 quarts. You shouldn't run it that high anyways. Go for the middle of the dipstick or lower. Oil return flange placement isn't usually a huge issue on DSMs, it is on cars like Hondas, where dumbasses will put the flange at the lowest point possible on the pans.
