DSM Values

Do you guys see DSMs suddenly are for sale a lot higher prices than they used to be? I browse through Tuners and the 1Gs are listed at usually $4,500 to $6,500, and a few of them are in the $10k+ range. Even locally some guy is trying to sell a 1G talon for $12,000 that is most likely worth only half.

Re: DSM Values

Value is in the eye of the beholder. But yes, I have noticed asking prices are going up for GOOD condition DSM's. Maybe because it's getting harder to find a decent one?

Re: DSM Values

A clean shell is a bit hard to find, so people that have them seem to think they are worth a fortune.
You end up putting a lot of money into your DSM, so for some people maybe its worth getting raped for a clean body.

Re: DSM Values

Some people are asking more, but that doesn't mean they are getting anything near that or actually selling them. Some people seem to think that mod add to the value of the car at 100% of the original cost of the mod and labor.

That is why it makes more sense to part it out.

However dsmtrader being down so long is killing a ton of sales. They really need to get that site back up asap.

That definately is the funny part. I know for a fact I will not get 100% back of what I put in for mods. Maybe 50% at MAX.

Unless it is in the new fast and furious movie and you time your sale with that, then you will get 150%

Re: DSM Values

people think that no matter what kind of car they have... for some reason they think that they can easily get back what they put into it in mods. it's pretty retarded.

Re: DSM Values

You basically have to look at it like this. If you mod the car for a hobbie, then thats just what it is 'a hobbie'. Most hobbies don't turn out to have any financial gains, unless you collect something that is worth a lot or is in high demand.

If you want to get out of your hobbie, your most likely not going to get your whole investment back. People think when they mod cars and then they decide they want out that they should get their whole investment back. Wrong. Cars are a bad investment from the get go, not to mention mods don't make the book/loan value any higher.

Can you tell that to everyone with a Nissan 240sx for sale?

I would actually believe that for the general public mods bring down the value of the car. Would you want to go out and buy a car you don't know a whole lot about that has a bunch of stuff done to it by someone you dont know? And then pay more money for it?

That depends if you still want the power or not, not if you have any idea of what's actually in the engine.

It's all about the hold out.

The right buyer might be willing to spend 11-12k for that car depending on overall condition. A quick sale might only bring 6500-7500.

Re: DSM Values

i agree with dsmstyle. i payed $1700 for my '92, i should of payed $1200 or something, ask josh or john at LSE about it. Its quite a big piece, the problem is people like me. I was so desperate to get another DSM after 6 months that i would look at anything that i thought was a "deal". The car needed new water pump, even though i do all the t-belt stuff when i buy a DSM unless they have receipts. It also needs 2 new tie rod ends, driver lower ball joint, pass. axle, brakes. the body is kinda rough and the interior is ok.
But a friend of mine picked up a '92 galant VR4 for $500 in mint condition. he got it from a junkyard some guy brought it in to be scraped. (sorry for length)
