Well I have an opportunity to get a Carbon fiber hood for my car. These are sotra hard to come by for GVR4's. I will have to get hood pins even though this is a true bolt on hood, due to the light weight, it would eventually crack and fly open if I didn't. Keep in mind my car is black, so even unpainted it won't stick out too bad. The only reason I am hesitant is I don’t want the attention a fibber hood brings. Do they bring that much attention anymore?

carbon fibber on a black car = nice

Don't worry about painting it unless you catch a lot of flak for it.

I have seen 1 black car with a crappy fibber hood, it stands out a lot. But you can put it on and if you dont like it take it off and get it painted somewhere.

I say rock out to it. I think it woudl look great on your car Ryan and be ideal for a little weight loss on that beast.

They are worth it if that's the look you want. Very little performance gain will be picked up. For the same amount of $$ you could do something else to the car that would make it faster. Just my thoughts.

Ruins sleeper effect. But if you already have some nicer rims on there, and an exhaust, it's not gonna matter.

Go for it...the weight savings up front should be noticable towards the handling of the car. I know when I shaved 25 lbs by switching to a small battery the car was slightly more responsive and had easier turn-in.

I've never heard of a fibber hood. Is that lighter than a fiber one? :stick:

I saw a real shitty one at the SO. I would've painted that POS for sure.

CF hoods don't save much weight do they? It's mostly for looks but like Dane said-- if you already have some bling parts on, add it! It looks nice.... IMO

I would only get the carbon hood if it really saved a good amount of weight. If it doesnt save weight like some people say then whats the point of buying one besides looks?

Stock hoods weigh alot... maybe like 40lbs. I would assume a carbon would cut that in half or more.

My VIS hood is probably 20 lbs lighter than stock. I am guessing 25 vs 45 for the stocker. The 1g's have a fiberglass structure though, unlike the 2g ones.

Was the shitty one you saw at the SO on a really nice black GVR4? Unfortunately after further research the maker of the hood seems to have QC issues, as the first two were really nice, and the next two not so nice. One of the guys that got a not so nice one was at the SO. He did a full restoration on his car, and ended up with a crappy hood, after a year and a half wait in a group buy.

I say no. Money could be spent else where for a greater effect. I don't think that a stock 1g hood is that heavy myself. I don't know about a Gvr4. For me, that $300-$400 could be a wideband kit. You could also spend it on a SAFC, logger, and a fun night at the strip club. I am just against the idea.
