Project Trailer - Transport and comfort

Well I needed a more secure way to get my race only Kawasaki to events, so this spring's project is to buy an enclosed trailer. (I also have a pit bike that I made with a full frame up restoration/modification that may get its own thread already done this spring).

So I decided I need to gather some money.

In looking at Craigslist and determining the best course of action I decided to buy a 6x12x6' high used enclosed trailer. I found a decent price on one in Spooner, WI. So last Wednesday, March 16th, and decided to pull the trigger after some over the phone wheeling and dealing.

When I got there the trailer lights didn't work very well and I actually had a blown fuse on my truck at the same time due to borrowing another trailer for IMS with a bad taillight, so figuring out both of those was fun.
Here are two pictures I took when I was driving home that night.

So I made a list and bought some stuff:

Upon trailer inspection I came up with a list of items required:
  • Sagging floor repaired
To combat this idea I decided to install a 3/8" subflooring over the existing
Old Floor:

New floor progress pictures.
First piece cut to size, before glue.

Board installed

2nd front board cut and glue, before install

Almost done, didn't take one of the final product yet
  • Electrical system in trailer fixed due to vampire taps, incorrect wire routing, and burned out lights.
New LED tail lights and side lights, and replacing a fender light system fixed the lighting. All new electrical wiring in the trailer fixed the vampire tap issue
So I started to rip out wiring, this is only the tail lights, notice all the vampire taps/wire taps. I think I counted 30 throughout the trailer in total.

Another example of a customization, 2 110V outlets on the floor, non weatherproof box, with "custom cord" with an illegal 110v male plug for extension cord install.

Stripped all the wire out and ran new stuff.

I also swapped in a 7 pin connector

So now the wiring is completed. I also added a backup camera.

Truck side 7" color monitor setup and ready for plug and play

Testing where to put the rear camera, ended up in this general direction.

And yes, everything is soldered and heat shrinked.

So the Camera is installed and functions perfectly. Bluetooth wireless and the 7" monitor will just stick on my truck dash, I can peel off the sticky tape/mount when it is time to trade it in.

Remaining stuff:
  • Seal drip edges on outside of trailer and seal up patch panels to cover holes due to removing ladder rack
  • Install Insulation
  • Re-panel interior
  • Install floor cover (marine grade carpet probably)
  • Front shelf install and cabinet construction
  • wheel chock and bike placement
  • install rest of gear
  • Fix rear trailer hinge
  • Paint touch up and decal install

I've also made some videos and put them on FB, need to figure out how to share them.

More to come tonight.
