Re: Help me catergorize a Galant VR4
GVR4 owners are fickle. If they don't want to come to the All Mitsu Cookout just because the categorizing isn't to their demands, they can take it up the backside. They just can't handle the competition with the much more powerful 1Gs. Personally, I like the idea of putting them in the "Other" grouping.
The best part of the cookout isn't the categories. It's the chance to see a bunch of nice cars, hang out with people, and eat some tasty ass food for dirt cheap.

I agree. And most car shows i've ever been to don't categorize cars by makes/models like Chevy's, then the Ford's, Dodge, etc.. They do it by year. 60-'69, 70-'79, 80-'89, etc. Something along that nature. I plan on going this year for the first time and i could really care less if it were all just one big dam class as a whole. 1g owners put just as much time and work into their cars as 2g owners and vise versa. Just because i have a 2g doesn't make my car nicer than a 1g or mean that i do anymore work than they do to their car. It's a car show. We're not running our cars down a strip to see who is fastest. And if they don't feel confident about the work and time they've put in their car, then leave it home.

Uh oh. That "someone" is feeling like an *** right now and probably wont be going to the cookout anymore, haha. Man, he must think his car is too good to be called a DSM, so he wants to be in his own catagory and stand out when he's the only one . What a funny guy (not...).

Re: Help me catergorize a Galant VR4
Why am I in the mood to ban all Galant VR4 members now? And all those pussies with 1.8s! It's those "not the norm" people that really fuck shit up for the "norm people".

Re: Help me catergorize a Galant VR4
In all honesty there are two way to look at it.
GVR4= DSM
DSM = GVR4?
That would be to say a DSM is a Galant VR4.
Most people will say no to the second one. I don’t know why, but they do. It’s kind of like the rectangle VS square thing. In all technicality a GVR4 IS NOT A DSM. They started production in 1988. When did DSM’s start? 1990? A full two years later. ALL GVR4’s were built in Japan, not Normal Illinois (or wherever DSM’s were built) The body style happens to be the 6th generation of the Galant.
As for were I will be grouped, I think I will opt for Other Mitsu category. Despite the vast amount of similarities, a GVR4 is NOT a 1G DSM. I don’t think we need our own category, typically only two or three show up, and that isn’t enough to pay for a trophy is it?

I miss spoke. 88 and 90 were the first modle years, 87 (possibly even 86, but I don't recall anyone mentioning an 87 GVR4) and 89 being the production starts.

There were '88 GVR4's in the US? I haven't heard of this before!

Re: Help me catergorize a Galant VR4
I don't see why it shouldn't be in the "other" category.
Yeah, it has a 4g63, but if my conquest had a 4g63 in it, would it be a DSM, it was kind of a joint venture between mitsu and chrysler (meaning mitsu built it, and chrysler built some badges for it)
I say put them with "Other Mitsu" to make em feel better, plus it will shock me if there were more than a half donzen starions/conquests there this year.

Put them in other if you're concerned. As for the kid that bitched, he gets his own catagory....in the corner.....behind the dumpsters.....wearing a sign proclaiming what a fucking moron he is.

Agreed. You can never make everyone happy.
If someone gets so worked up about what catagory you place them in, is it really worth having them around? My guess is he'll roll up in some beater-GVR4 and talk it up like its the end-all of performance machines. I don't want to meet him, do any of you?
Personally, if I were organizing the cookout and recieved an email like that he'd get one right back cordially uninviting him to this and all future cookouts explaining that he has been officially banned and the police will be notified he is not welcome and will be contacted if he still chooses to arrive.

Re: Help me catergorize a Galant VR4
Not in the US, but in Japan and other countries. The total number produced is almost 30,000, but that's all of the years combined.

Re: Help me catergorize a Galant VR4
What I dont get is all the other Galants (not GVR4's) up to 95 I believe are all DSM's. They all have the DSM plate under the hood, so the GVR4's are Galants, they share the same motor and drivetrain, so why would they not be considered a DSM? Who cares if they are made in Japan! JayDeeM yo.
