Has anyone gone to the OpenBoxTVs.com warehouse? on their craigslist ad they said they have 3 65" plasmas for 720 each. They are in hopkins, so i may just swing by to see what they have.
|
ya i went there, all of their t.v's that they say are a good deal are broken in some way. And those 3 60" tv's they have are the "older" projection tvs. I would avoid that store.
And i would go with the samsung.

Re: New Plasma tv
My mom's Panasonic Plasma died after 2 years. Sucks because 2 years is when the oem warranty expires. Went online and this has happened to a ton of Panasonics. Really sucks for my mom as she finally decided to put up some money for a nice new TV as she'd been rocking the 32" CRT for something like 10years or so. So she spends a bunch of money on a nice 42" Plasma Panasonic, and it dies after 2 years. I tried to fix it for her after researching online, but it didn't work. So now we have a nice paper weight sitting in my spare bedroom.
I won't ever buy a Panasonic TV after reading about their lack of a response to similar situations with a ton of their TV's.
I love Samsung however. My g/f's LCD one is awesome. I'd recommend Samsung personally over the Panasonic.

Re: New Plasma tv
The Plasma's have come a long way. From what i have heard the Panasonic's have little to no burn in. My tv aint that old, but it has already had about four 6 hour gaming sessions of Medal Of honor on it. And afterwards not even a hint of burn in. Even so they do have a whitewash type setting that will take care of most of it.
I do realize that every manufacturer is gonna have issues. I was just pointing one out. My Brother in law has also had a bad experience with his Samsung LCD. And i am sure Panasonic has its downsides too. Every place i went here in town Recommended the Panasonic for the Plasma. BUt than again, all I got here, is Best buy, Sears, and walmart.
I also got an extended 4 year warranty on mine just incase anything happens.

Re: New Plasma tv
Tom, I understand the point of you wanting to save money, but why not wait until Black Friday and get something brand new for about the same price? The saying "you get what you pay for" still exists.

Also Samsung makes their own displays and they're superior to everyone else. This includes their phones, their monitors, their TV's etc.

Re: New Plasma tv
Love my Samsung LCD! That said most places I have been to say Panasonic and Samsung are the top Plasma places. I am also going through a similar descision. But I am going to wait until Black friday to buy the TV and see what deals come up, I have also heard it will be crazy good deals this year.

Re: New Plasma tv
That Samsung is the exact TV I bought a few months ago. The picture is amazing and internal speakers aren't half bad either. I have been nothing but impressed with picture clarity and overall build quality. Plus the stand swivels ~30*. Definitely worth the $750 (I paid just over $1,000 for mine no more than two months ago).

Re: New Plasma tv
Plasmas are amazing picture quality and speed, nothing will touch it. As far as the burn in goes this is a problem if you will be doing things like playing video games and/or watching certain tv channels that have bars or menus on them that don't move. If it gets left in one spot too long it will burn in for quite awhile, but if you follow the instruction on the break in of 100 hours or so it does get way better.
Also with the Samsung (not sure of others) it has anti-burn protection screen that you let run if you notice some burn in (not to be confused with Ghosting)its just a scrolling screen that goes from the whitest white to the blackest black and will erase the images.
I bought a Samsung 58" last year at Best Buy for like $1600 I think, so they are so much cheaper than LCD and LED LCD because people are stupid and talk shit about things that they have no idea about, such as why you shouldn't buy a Plasma TV and how they dont last. Well if you spend a few hours doing searches on home theater websites you will see that a typical plasma will last every bit as long as a LCD, they say 100k hours of use is the norm. By my calculations of averaging 6 hours a day 7 days a week= 45.78 years of use. So you may want to consider buying a new tv in about 40 years or so because the technology may be outdated..
Hope this helps.

I run the anti-burn option once a week since I do a lot of gaming. So far I haven't noticed any burn-in. I went with the plasma because I do a lot of gaming and I couldn't stand playing on my friends' LCD because it was so blurry when you were moving around.

Re: New Plasma tv
My roommate has a Samsung Plasma also. I left my computer plugged into it over night on accident once, and my desktop image was burnt into the TV for about a week.

Re: New Plasma tv
Ive had my 50" HP plasma since 07 and love it. Get an extended warranty for it like I did and it will be fine. 4 year warranty at best buy was like 80 bucks.
All major brands are great these days but I do love samsung as well.
Dont buy a used TV Tom... get something new closer to xmas, when all the deals come out.

Re: New Plasma tv
^Same as you pretty much but no warranty. I got my samsung plasma thru a commercial vendor and I have a commercial version that is supposedly designed to resist burn in.
Either way no issues here.
