I removed the EGR on my IX and saw no change in MPG, but it definitely kept the intake manifold cooler and cleaner.

Did you reflash it to get rid of the CEL or did you just drive around with it on?

I disabled all emission systems in the ECU and completely removed them from the car. If you don't want to learn how to do it yourself, Shane (ecoli) can do it for you (the ECU part) when you go in for a dyno tune.
