Parking Lot Auto-X Results:

and by Class:

The classings used were very short and easy. Maybe next year we'll do SCCA classing. What do you guys think? For those that were there, did you like the classing?

Yeah the turnout for the Lapping Day was somewhat a disapointment, except for those that did show up. everyone got way more their fill of track time! open track all day, on a great track, with a great crew, made for one hell of a fun day out there!!!

hopefully next year some more people will try it out. I'm sure next year will be FREE RIDES for all around the track again, hopefully that's enough to get some more of you interested! it's well worth your time & money!! (especially when it's FREE RIDES) I'm sure anyone in the CWSCC crew would be more than happy to hand out rides if needed. You'll be hooked after the first lap!

It would have helped if we knew they were going to be classed like that, I had no idea what the rules were, and you guys didn't totally seem to either (no offense!) I ran my evoX in the MFI class(and got 7th), but based on those rules you linked above I would have been in SFI (and gotten 1st place)? Who knows, LOL. It was damn fun though, and keeping the classes big was important imho. No one wants to be top of a 3-car class, doesn't really mean anything. Now taht I actually see the rules (I didn't see these posted before the event) I really like the classing, it is really nice and simple. Maybe just have a copy of the class rules at the event and posted/linked ahead of time for next year so there's less confusion.

Also a little bit better organization at the gridding area would have helped (or maybe a small PA horn so we could hear you over the other announcer during the driver's meeting?) but people were just going to any lane when they came back in from their runs and then some people had gotten 3 runs and others only 1, that was the most un-fun part (though really not a big deal).

Ooh one more comment...when I attended the local novice school, they used chalk to outline the cones. If a cone was knocked over, it would easily be placed back in the right spot. I think the first slalom cone #4 or 5 got moved sometime through the course, because it seemed to get tighter as the morning went on (though this could be just me!).

But I had a blast. Got to meet Dave H with the Supra so that was nice. To anyone who as doubting that they wanted to camp in the beginning, I bet they are all glad they did Camping was pretty damn fun!

Great event, can't wait until next year.
My money is that trans works good when its actually bolted up.

I'm still available to drive when you are ready.

Great time out there, I plan on being there both days next year if possible.

I checked my bro's times out on the auto x and well he is looking forward to becoming a reg. at the auto x stuff.

yup, i agree, we forgot the chalk in our club trailer. i did mark the slalom cones with a little tape underneath the cone to make sure they would go back in the correct place, but maybe the corner workers didn’t see it or something. Next year...dont worry, its a mistake that wont happen again.

as for the classing, i thought about SCCA classing, but then we'd be there all day trying to figure out what class everyone is on. I knew we'd have lots of 1st timers (which is a good thing). I put the classings on the registration sheets. I tried to explain the registration sheets to the people that did registration and collected your money, but i dont think the understood my english.

Hope to see you next year!

Dizmm and devlish, as one of the couple regular autocrossers here I can't thank you guys enough for helping expose all the people at this event to autocross. I have heard from multiple people how fun and awesome autocross is, people who, as always, were skeptical and even unaccepting of it.

Unfortunately, I had prior obligations to fulfill at the ChumpCar race at Iowa Speedway otherwise I would have been there attempting to dominate.

Thanks again, hopefully I can make it there next year.

Re: Modern Automotive Performance 2nd Annual Sport Compact Proving Grounds June 26-27

We had a great time and not much breakage. The Evo's best was 10@151 and got kicked out. It makes crazy power, but we need to do a lot of work to get it to go down the track. The ETs should eventually be more like mid/low 9s and the mph should be upper 150s. After Ron got kicked out, he gave us his drag radial to use, which helped a lot, but we were having to run some crazy RPMs with how small they were and it was still spinning bad. Car needs more fuel pump, full cage/parachute, slicks, smaller front brakes, bigger intercooler, weight reduction, etc. Somehow it didn't break. I thought the motor might blow up from the excessive RPMs or the stock tranny/t-case might explode with the car launching at 9000RPMs.

Nate ran a bunch of 10s, I think his best MPH 147. He lost to a Civic from IL in the Outlaw Street finals. We were having some misfire problems in 4th gear late Sat and most of the day Sunday, which possibly got fix when Nate went into town and got more E85. Might have been starving it for fuel once it reached full boost in 4th gear.

Steve's white Civic went 9.9@149 in the Outlaw Street eliminations and got kicked out. He drove the car 3 times over the weekend and went 10.2, 10.1, and 9.9.

The all-motor Sentra that was stuck running 12.0 all day Saturday went 11.9 his first pass on Sunday and then ran a couple 11.8s. He lost to the RDR CRX in the finals, I think both cars went 11.8.

Kevin's Evo went 10.8 after changing 1 value in his tune after running mid 11s on Sat. He eventually went 10.6 and got kicked out.

A lot of DSM and Evo clutches were destroyed or were giving people problems.

I had planned on running my wife's SC300 in the bracket class and winning it with consistant 16.0 times, but I spent most of my time fiddling with tunes in cars. I can remember at least 8 cars that I was changed something on.

Sounds a bit like last year, I can imagine with more people it was even crazier for you.

Wish I could be there, hopefully next year!

don't thank me, Dizmm ran the entire AutoX, and did a great job. I helped stack up some cones at the end though!

It did seem like everyone had a great time, and where thankful they didn't have to work the course, and could concentrate on driving only! I wish a few more people would've given it a shot though. Same for the road course, hopefully next year we'll get some more people over on the big track. even if it's only for a few laps in one of our cars. they are sure to be hooked!

If next year you'd be willing to help do some instructing that'd be awesome. We were all busy and it was hard to give the 1st timers some instructions.

Maybe open up the road course to non-imports? I would have given rides. I am interested to see what times people ran on the course.

As for fixing, well a new chassis only runs $1K or so and might be a decent way to go, since the rest of the car wasn't exactly spectacular in the first place. Or the easier option I'm leaning towards is a hammer, a little bondo an a few new parts. Just need to decide if I want to continue my efforts of making a Grand Touring car a car that turn or not. If I go with a new chassis I won't be gutting it.
Hmm... Trying to picture this in my head... Turn 7 is a slight left into turn 8 which is a slight right before the cloverleaf?? I have lost it between 7/8 as I tried taking it without stopping at all. I made 7 but lost the rear sliding off the outside of the track at 8 and did 2 complete circles before stopping. I can't remember any walls there as I slid FAR off the track. I have also spun out on the clover leaf turn as I was a little heavy on the gas pedal and did a complete cicle on the pavement before sliding off the track. Both times were in James' viper I am pretty confident the car will never roll unless I hit something while sliding.

road course was open to EVERYONE!!!! both saturday for the lapping day, and sunday for the high-speed AutoX. We were really hoping for a much better turnout at both events.

what is it that turned people away from this? the price was great for the opportunity to run on such a nice road course... was it the advertising that didn't get the word out enough? or was it price? or just that there was so much going on?
