Evo or Sti

I'm selling my eclipse, planning on getting an Evo or an Sti. What do you guys think as far as performance, cost, looks. I'm guessing seeing as were on a Mitsubishi sight, it might lean to the Evo, but let's hear some thoughts.

Re: Evo or Sti

Depends what the car will be used for and what you want it to do for you. Both are great cars, but the STi will be a little softer for your daily comfort while the EVO is a little more hardcore for racing. As a year-round daily I'd get the STi since it has a nicer interior and is more comfortable, but if it were to be my second car (i.e. summer/fun/weekend car) then I'd go for the EVO. Best way to find out is to test-drive them both back-to-back.

Re: Evo or Sti

It's going to be a daily driver, with a few weekend trips to the track. I plan on building it some, as money becomes available. I just had a baby a few months ago, and so the GSX must go.

Re: Evo or Sti

I agree with S2kracka with the STi being more of a better DD. But the Evo tells you to buy it... or it will kill you in your sleep.
Way too much fun to drive compared to the STi IMO.

Re: Evo or Sti

The Evo has the easy potential. Even with less displacement the Evo beats the STi mod for mod. And when you want to try to rev an STi higher than stock for a big turbo, you will spend a fortune trying to get the heads to take any RPMs.

Re: Evo or Sti

yeah, I've heard that, I like the looks of the interior of the Sti better, I guess I could do some upgrading to an Evo's. The prices I've seen are better on the Evo.

Sti vs. Evo. I drove them both, I liked the Evo 50x more. Go drive one, then you will make your mind up by yourself. Downside of the Evo, the clutch goes quickly if you drag race it. Clutches are no fun to do, but I am sure it isn't fun to do a STi clutch either.

Re: Evo or Sti

Honestly, I used to be a fan of the STI's. I've changed my mind. You see way too many of them. Just on looks alone I'd go with the Evo. I guess if you take the wing off the STI...

Also, I think the Evo has a little more room inside, which is great for a family car.

I would expect more reliability out of the Subie though...

Yes, Evo's love to eat clutches for breakfast, then a snack, then lunch, 4 more snacks, dinnner and then 5 or 6 thousand more late night snacks.

And it all depends on how you drive it though. If you plan on goin to the track once in a while always have a spare clutch in hand after a few trips. I've seen Evos reduce clutches to meer dog shit in like 3-5k miles.

Hah. Well I have to say.. it had 22k miles on it, and was perfectly fine... then 7 launches and it was gone. It was my fault though because I did a run every hour thinking/hoping it was enough to let it cool. I didn't really care because I wanted to do the clutch and get it over with anyways.

Word of advice. Do it once, do it right! Twin disc all the way! Til you make 600ft/lbs and need to do it again.

Ouch, 3-5k, is that just a stock clutch? Would you get better life out of a better clutch?

Like I said, it all depends on how you drive your car. I doubt you'll be beating on it that badly though, but if you plan on going to the track once in a while I'd recommend getting a better clutch than stock.

Yes, twin-disc is AL CAPWNAGE! Until you hit that number.

Oh, and I'm sure that an STi can rip apart a clutch like no one's business as well, gotta love AWD! I just haven't read as much or had much experience around STis' as I have with an Evo.

Re: Evo or Sti

i would go with with the evo for 2 reasons.
a) to still be a dsmer
b) because i love how it looks, my girl is pregant now and i'm considering an evo as family car, and since it's a 4door car the wife will aprove it,

Re: Evo or Sti

If your going to be driving the kid around in the car... i'd hate to say but the STI i belive got a better crash test score.

I've been looking into a WRX and dreaming about an Evo. The WRX(sti included) scored safer then the Evo, but not like compairing a Saab to a Focus. Evo has the looks, better performance penny for penny over the STI. Better suspension and easier upgrades, and cheaper IMO.

STI has saftey, comfort and the cool hood scoop. I just wanted a WRX for the fact you can run about stock for stock with a GSX(about). And you don't have to fix it once a week.

Why do you need to get rid of the GSX? Because you have a kid. I had a kid 2.5 years ago and still drive the DSM. I see it all the time “have a kid on the way need to sell” I don’t under stand unless you have more than one kid. The last thing I needed with a new kid is a new car payment.
Just my two cents.

Re: Evo or Sti

You don’t need four doors to get a kid in the car.

My Mom put three kids in a ford pinto 30 years ago. I think I can get one in a DSM.

I say keep the GSX, but if you must get the EVO.

I just hate to see people getting out of TEL DSMs. you know some day we will be sitting around the retirement home talking about how I wish I never sold that DSM. Like some old guys talk about how they had a cool 57 Chevy and how they miss it.
