PTE turbo question
Ok, well i'm in my last final stages before i start the motor later this weekend after being down since late Oct for a big mod list. I have a question regarding my PTE 50trim turbo and connecting the boost controller. I use a Hallman by the way.
If you're familiar with the PTE's, they have a nipple on the lower part of the compressor housing. Then they have a vacuum hose that runs around to the wastegate actuator. Where do i hook up my boost controller? Do i cut that hose in half and "T" into it? -OR- do i cap off the compressor nipple and run my boost controller hose directly to the wastegate.
I guess the hose throws me off because i'm under the impression that the compression housing is under pressure whereas the wastegate works off of vacuum(suction).
Thanks for any help.

Re: PTE turbo question
Dont use the compresser housing. Plug it off and use the one on the intake like normal.

Re: PTE turbo question
Before with the old setup, i just had a T on the line going to the BOV. Then that line went to the 1st part of the Hallman. Then the 2nd hose of the hallman went to the wastegate. I'm not stupid at this, but the hose on the turbo just threw me off. I don't see any other turbo place doing that.
I'm just gonna use a copper plug on the compressor one and do it like in the pic.

Re: PTE turbo question
Cut that hose in half and put your boost controller in there (you may want to get a bit longer hose though. The compressor nipple goes to the bottom of your mbc, and the side of your mbc goes to the wastegate.

Re: PTE turbo question
And the wastegate works off of pressure/boost, not vacuum.

Thanks for the clarification. All this time i thought it was sucked in.
S2Kracka- So basically i would have no lines from the MBC to the BOV line. Everything would done at the turbo, correct? The line going to the wastegate is the one that's got the little copper connector with the little pin hole in it.

Correct, you will have no lines running to the BOV line. Its best to keep the MBC hoeses as short as possible, this helps reduce/prevent boost spike (generally the boost responds more quickly). As for the copper connector with the pinhole in it, w/o seeing you exact boost controller I'm assuming that is the outlet nipple on the side (not bottome) of the unit similar to my Joe P. If I assumed correctly, then yes, that is the nipple to connect with the wg.

This is not meant to be mean in the least nor am I second guessing your decision, but are you sure you're ready for a 50-trim?

Re: PTE turbo question
No problem- Yeah i'm ready to hit 11's. I basically just wanted to know the best way to do it(connection). I honestly thought that the wastegate actuator was sucked by vacuum not pushed with air pressure. I The BOV is sucked by vacuum so if you t into that, whatever you t into, i thought would be sucked as well. My thinking was wrong. I was thinking that the wastegate actuator arm was extended(closed flapper), and then when a certain amount of boost pressure(whatever set at), was hit, the actuator was sucked inward via vacuum.

Re: PTE turbo question
Thanks, I think I do.... I've stuck about $5-6k in it over the winter but that included Racing Hart 19" C5 Wheels. I have stock 2g 7bolt bottom end, stage 1 ported head & valve job, Magnus SMIM, HKS 272 cams, 780cc injectors, DSMLink, onboard computer system, SouthBend Clutch, Fidanza Flywheel, 255LPH rewired pump, 1g throttle body, FMIC, 2 1/2" i/c piping, TurboXS BOV, Hallman MBC, Mr. Gasket 1400cfm fans, SS Clutch Line, 3" Exhaust from the Flex pipe back, RSR Catback, 3" Cat, Forced Performance Intake Pipe, Odyssey slim battery, Methanol injection and of course the PTE 50 trim. On top of that all the little crap like gauges, etc... are a given.
I realize that i may ask alot of questions on here but sometimes it may or may not be to back up what i might already know or think how it should be. I'm extremely thorough about my work. I do a great deal of research before doing something. Everything on my cars is done by myself or my professional machinist brother as the family owns a mid sized machine shop with CNC lathes and Vertical CNC mills, etc. I'm a computer programmer/network technician. Every part about my cars is tuned by myself. I ran pretty dam good times with the old GST considering it was FWD and a sm16g. The day i have to take my car to someone to get worked on or tuned is the day she gets a .99 cent For Sale sign. I just believe to be in this hobby, you just have to do most of this stuff yourself to respect and appreciate it.
I try to make the best out of the forum and not use it for Parking Lot purposes. There are a handful of people that i wish i could personally thank for their continued help in this fun project. You know who you are.
Thank you.
