Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette

So I am planning to take my dad's corvette on the cruise this year with my car missing parts.

I heard like a month ago he was getting new tires and he said he was putting the Michelin Pilot super sports on there. I was pumped as I have heard awesome things about them, even considering them for the evo.

Found out this morning that they are still back ordered at this point with no due date in sight. Well my dad said the rears are basically slicks cause his dumb ass has been burning them up knowing he was getting new tires.

The sizes factor are these:

245/40/18 front
285/35/19 rear

I think its the rears that are backordered as tirerack shows them as that as well.

Thoughts?

Any compareable tires? I am not coming up with too much but I am not a tire guru.

Should he look at going a bit wider than factory perhaps?

He wants a pure summer tire but nothing track ready, something that will get 15-20k miles with ease I would think.

Any help is appreciated, would rather not have a car with shit tires for the cruise, don't need to end up in the ditch

Thanks!

Continental ExtremeContact DW; both sizes are currently in-stock at Tirerack plus they're on sale. These are the tires I will be getting next for my Evo after these shitty Nittos burn off.

Are they pretty comparable? I was considering those, but have zero experience with them.

Also, can you link them? Maybe I am crazy but the conti's seem to have multiple listings, and I can't tell which tire is which. It almost looks like they list the DW's twice on the site I was just looking at.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette

They are a very good performance street tire. People are saying the sidewalls are a little soft for track duty, but from the sounds of it that will be no concern to your dad. Their grip is very good though, plus they're one of the lighter tires on the market (shaving rotational weight is never a bad thing). The Michelin in question is a 300 treadwear and the Continental is a 340; they're both categorized as a "max performance summer" tire.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette

You could also look at the Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position (also currently in-stock and these will actually be the cheapest choice after rebate).

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette

No doubt! You really can't go wrong with any of those three and I'd feel comfortable putting any of them on my Evo or my dad's GTO!

In fact, maybe I'll just buy a set now for my car... Did I mention how much I hate these Nittos?

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette

Do it

I have zero complaints about my hankook v12's but I don't push them much. I will be getting something a bit more aggressive next time though. Rivals or PSS (with DR's for track) I think.

I will update on what he picks. Then hopefully on the cruise they work well.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette

I had the V12's once and won't purchase those again; the Sumitomo HTRZ III's are a better tire for that class/price.

V12's are mushy pieces of shit. Agreed that HTRZ III's are way better for same price.

Quite a bit cheaper actually...the Hankooks have really gone up in price this past year.

NT-05's are good tires, it's the NeoGens that I have (got 6 nearly brand new ones for free with my BBS wheels).

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette

I am surprised that you guys say the v12's aren't that good. For the price and how long they last I like them a lot.

I cheaped out on tires for these as I had just spent 1500 on tires the year before (275's are pricey ) and didn't want to spend a lot.

Maybe its just my rim/tire size setup but I think they are pretty good for DD duty and have plenty of grip, even when I was making 750whp.

Did you ever corner hard on them? Maybe if they had a little stretch on them they wouldn't be so bad, but the 245/45-17's I had cornered like fuckin snow tires. Mushy.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette

I picked up the Sumitomo's this year with my new wheels, I have to say I'm pretty impressed. Even in the rain, they had awesome grip up at Brainerd, and with the Koni's on full stiff, they don't even make a peep at 70 around clover leafs.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette

Damn, I have only ever seen those shitty NeoGens on Hondas, and they are extremely common on them. For as traction limited that Hondas are, they all seem to pick some of the worst tires. The pilot super sports are popular on the Vipers. I have had some decent HP RWD domestic V8s in that run the Nitto NT-01 road race tires on the street and they seem to hookup very well at low speeds, but won't last long at all.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette

He ended up with the continental extremecontact DW's. Even though I told him to check tirerack he ended up using discount tire and he said the pole positions were out of stock.

But they are supposed to be here next week. He goes out of town Thursday so we will see if he gets them in time.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette

I work for Bridgestone/Firestone and get pretty damn good deals on tires, including no charge mount/balance. All the ultra high performance classed tires including the whole pole position line. Or even if you looking for regular cheap tires or snow tires I can get you a great deal. When you buy tires you can get a free alignment check also if interested.

PM me for a tire quote if interested.

Re: Tire Recommendations for 06 Vette

I think i need new tires for my Kizashi now, almost 30,000 miles and I think I will get some before snow flies. Yesterday in the rain we had I was really getting close to hydroplaning quite a few times, had to drive slow so guessing treads are getting low, ill confirm later today.

Discount tire recommended Pirelli P7's, anyone have good recommendations for an all season tire for a DD. The P7's look like they have a pretty beast wear rating, 700AA.
