We might be able to get you some for cheaper at Elite. But you will need to pull the head off the car and get a machine shop to install the new valves and do a valve job. There is also a good chance that some of the valve guides are damaged from the valves benting.

yeah good point bout the valve guides being messed up. so how much would the valves cost at elite and the install and a valve job? how could you tell if the valve guides are damaged?

Yeah, let me know how much some 1mm over nitride coated ones would be, Shane. I am about ready to order some. They are SI's I assume?

For cheap valves we can get SI or some other brand that I can't remember. Both offer blakc nitrided versions. If you want a high quality brand it's $$$.

Seriously go buy a chiltons manual. All or most of the questions you post will be found in there. Or go search VFAQ.

I dont understand all these questions from someone without a DSM.

I dont think Elite can do the head work.. You need a machine shop to install all the valve guides and valves and seals.

Shane said that a machine shop wound need to install the valves. He is asking all these questions as he is in the market for a dsm. I would want to know the costs of repairing that laser before buying it. Wouldn't you?

Another alternative since you are a n00b is to just buy a used head in good condition. I am sure someone local (if not Elite or QPR), has one laying around.

i dont think im going to get the one with the messed up head. it is also missing a drivers side door window and a full exhaust. im going to get the other one, the guy says it is running weird rich like. how could you fix that? its a laser too. this one actually runs but has a lot more miles. so how do you fix the injectors to stop running rich? safc maybe?

It probly has some kind of ecu error making it run rich. I would have it checked over before you buy it. How much is the "rich" one? It may not be running rich after all. Just may have shit wrong with it. It is usually not as easy as an injector. Talk to forcefed about that. His car had a small misfire that took 2-3 months to diagnose.

On the bent valves question. I have had several heads in the shop with bent valves we have fixed with stockers. It is a cheap way to go, new guides are cheap if you need them (under $10 each) If you want to go larger with 1MM over valves, we just got a head done with them, machining cost for just the valves run $220. The valves used were REV's (excellent valves) which run just a hair under $20 per valve. They are undercut swirl-polished SS, not nitrided for a reason, better material that doesn't require it. If you have any questions on this stuff including the nitriding, give me a call at the shop.

Actually REV does offer nitrided valves, Elite can get them for a very good price. Nitriding is not required on any of the stainless valves, but it does have its benefits. It makes the valve stronger so they can turn it down more (which in turn makes it lighter) and it also leaves a better finish so that air will flow better over it.
