2G/1G, piston and rod combo cost.

How much does it cost to have 2G pistons put on 1G rods?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Re: 2G/1G, piston and rod combo cost.

My engine builder said it'd be about $200 to modify the rods.

This is a great question!

Who around here is proficient at doing this? I know a few guys are running them, mara's car was for a long time (still is? idk). A lot of people question not just putting in a set of weiscos but for factory reliability, this is a tough combo to beat.

the talon's old engine (now in the 93 mirage) has this set up as does the 89 hatch.
I had the talon done over 8 years ago now back then it was 100.00 to do them all. The engine is still going strong today

Holy crap! $200 to bore out the rods 1mm and press four pins in? I just had Wagamon Bros do mine for $100, it took them a month to do it though.

Might not be the most cost effective thing nowdays. We used to do it, because the cheapest rods were $700+ and pistons were $600+ back in the day.

Re: 2G/1G, piston and rod combo cost.

Econo rods that can handle 600-900whp are like $300-325 and pistons are $450-$550

Re: 2G/1G, piston and rod combo cost.

Yeah, if you can score a used set of aftermarket rods and pistons in the right bore size, you can get a new set of rings for around $100.

Re: 2G/1G, piston and rod combo cost.

i was talking 2g piston & 1g rod combo. I was looking to build a stock bottom end to try and chase Brad but it looks like everyone wants to swear off a 2g piston/1g rod combo, plus I would only do it if the motor needed it.

I'm hoping to get it together asap just to work out bugs.

Brad's on low compression 1G pistons. Must be why he can run 38psi and a 100shot of nitrous and not knock.

I guess never above 33psi or whatever with the nitrous.
