My tune..
Ok, well right now I'm running 30psi on the 16g with E85, 19 peak timing and a 12.5 a/f with 0 knock. My car is tuned with a Keydiver chip and SAFC. What I have been thinking lately, (as I'm already getting bored with the power the car has,) is upping the timing. I was thinking somewhere in the 22-24 peak range. But would that be too much? Too much cylinder pressure? I see most people running low 20's in the timing range that are running about the same setup. So what do you tuning guru's think?
Damn I need dsmlink!!!

Re: My tune..
IMHO if it runs solid as-is leave it. I'm sure others can add in but shane told me not to push timing too hard on E85, as at some point you'll get diminishing gains.
Do you have aftermarket cams yet? Might do those instead of pushing your current setup. Remember not to be too greedy either. 16g is the imho the perfect turbo but way up top it leaves a little to be desired after a while. I say rock it as-is, or if you really want to know if more timing will really help, get it on a dyno

Re: My tune..
People I have seen do that dont gain much past 18. Why so lean? Shouldnt you be in mid 11's?

Re: My tune..
Yeah I have 272's. And my car likes it that lean for some reason. I trapped quite a bit higher the more I leaned it out. When I went leaner then 12.5 I wasn't trapping any higher so I left it there. I think I am gonna leave the timing. I talked to the guy who made the chip and I should be at 22 peak timing at 7k. I'll have to check my logger again but I'm pretty sure I was only at 19.

Re: My tune..
I'd say you could scrounge some more out of it with the almighty Link.

Re: My tune..
I know for a fact I could get more out of the car if I had link. But until I can afford it, I'll be leaving the car as it is for now. I was just getting a little greedy I guess. Now I just wanna throw it on the dyno!

Re: My tune..
I went to DB and had my timing around 20*, and I did not want to go any higher due to cylinder pressure.
We brought it down to 17* and hardly even saw a difference, so we left it at 17" as it's a "safer" level. You can run a ton of timing on E85 because it is just so damn knock resistant. But you have to be careful because too much can cause other issues.
I would say leave it where you are at, 19* is already a decent amount.
Just my .02 cents.

Re: My tune..
If you can't turn the boost up more then nitrous. Guaranteed more power with less lag too.

Re: My tune..
Haha. too bad I'm not a fan of nitrous.. But yea I'm gonna leave it be. 19 should be plenty.

Re: My tune..
I already spin into 3rd with brand new tires. Nitrous would not help me in any way. Haha

Re: My tune..
Sounds like you need a laggier (bigger) turbo

Re: My tune..
I had a 16g and went to the scm61 on my old gst. It only made the car slower until boost hit, then berrrrrrrrrrrrr, wheel peel until you get to about 90mph. The wheelspin was actually worse on the bigger turbo. With the 16g, I felt that was the limits for a 1g fwd + getting wheelspin in check as it only spun for a split second (no lsd, 16x8s). Although big thing with a 16g is there is no top end (100mph+)

Re: My tune..
Well it must be my 272's cause my car has massive top end. But yea, that is where the turbo struggles. I only shift my car at like 6300rpm.
One thing I've always wanted was a dual stage boost controller. That would be awsome..

Re: My tune..
I actually had bc 280s on it also. I guess my perception on topend is different. The topend I'm talking about is a 1.5 sec or lower 70-90 time, or trapping 130mph. Don't get me wrong the 16g has some breath, but when you've been in a 130+ mph car it's hard to say the 16g has top end.
