So, as you all know, my luck as of late could not get any worse, and I really can't think of how it could. I won't get into it, as in reality, no one cares much for it. But, I decided that I needed SOMETHING for ME. So, I scrounged together some cashola ( and some I didn't have) to get up on the rollers at the BEGINNING of the year, and not at the end.
I got up to DB, with some gas in car, and we threw it up..here's proof!
First off, my motor is noisy, always has been, always will be..dunno why. Proof is in the pudding..look closely at the blue..that's knock.."phantom" knock, with a few counts of real in there..
Shane worked his magic in a rather quick manner..
And the results are..ok. I can not fault anyone for the tune or etc, but myself and the car. I will first give a HUGE thanks to Shane for staying soo late with me to work this out, and sort some issues. Also, Thanks for John to stop by and lend a hand. And, the few peeps that showed up
Numbers are: 533 AWHP 390 TQ 35ish psi.
Now, just to make myself a bit happier, and to give everyone a BIT of my "bench number" prospective, I took Mara's numbers, and Andrew's (asshanson) and looked at their differences on DB to MAP's dyno..both right around 18%..within about 2-3 hp. So, with that in mind..my "projected" numbers would be: 628AWHP, 460 TQ
Again, that's BENCH numbers, as I didn't actually strap down there YET. I plan on it, just to see if I follow the same path as others have.
To say I'm happy, would not be quite right. It's fun, yes..but the powerband is what kills me. Through no fault of John or myself, all the stuff we fixed/changed over winter, the car STILL can't rev! It CUTS out hard at the SAME spot! 7950! I should be able to go to 8750ish. I'm not too happy. This is a laggier setup. I dunno if it's the need to shim the valve springs, port the head, get different cams, get a stroker motor, or live with it, and get a small turbo..I dunno. But, whatever. Something MUST change..this has been 2 years chasing whatever the f^&* the issue is!
Riding home in the car, with shane right there was...interesting. I have a few issues, that I'm sure he and I will continue to work out. A)1600's are not for faint of heart. part throttle is decent at best..just too hard to tune around with their resolution. B) when on highway, downshifting into say..3rd, the car spits and sputters a bit..burry the throttle..it still does..then cleans up..then...woooa. hold on. Which brings me to my next point..C) I need better tires! I guess AWD burnouts are my new thing..as that's what this car likes to do. Shane and I had about 4 attempts at each other on the way back south to go home..first time I did it, there was a cop in the divider area...oopS! other times..it just bucked..sputtered then took off, and spun..got a bit sideways.
So ya. That's my day. I can't say there is much more in the car, atleast right now. Few options we'd try is a 1g knock sensor, that's less sensative as a 2g is. Also, boost leak test, and clean out the fuel filter, as the fuel pressure and tune was not quite right.."running out of fuel" it seems like, but injectors are right around 70% DC, so clogged filter? Other then that, I'm out of ideas! We had an issue with my MAP sensor too, so right now I'm on a spare one Shane had sitting around (thanks Shane!) and I'll TRY to see if somehow AEM will warranty mine?
Anyway, that's all for now. Video is WAY too slow to upload, and frankly, not a whole lot to look at. I stopped at taco bell on the way home, as I didn't have much to eat..actually NOTHING AT ALL today, since last night! So, I drove there..guy at the window was a little "happy" when I pulled up, and started obsessing..kinda funny. But, now my belly is full of tacos, burritos, and quesadilla's. I guess I gotta be happy I'm now on that smelly corn schtuff, and I DROVE the car home..not towed it. So, I hope in the future, I can have better news to deliver to you all. For now, there ya have it!
