1G FMIC Kit Suggestions?
I'd like to buy a 1G FMIC kit. Has to be short route piping, and I'm gonna need room for a GM Maf in Blow Through. I had a Buschur street kit on my last 1g, it wasn't bad but I'd like to get a little bigger/better this time. I was pretty set on the Extreme PSI Race kit, and was a little iffy on the Dejon Race kit. I just wanted to hear others opinions based on their own experiences. I'd ideally like something I won't have to upgrade later... someday going for 450 awhp

Re: 1G FMIC Kit Suggestions?
I had the Buschur Street-Kit with MAFT blow-thru and was very happy with it. You could upgrade to their race-core instead of the street-core if you really think its necessary for 450 hp (which I don't). As far as other brands of intercoolers kits I really can't make any recomendations, I can advise against certain companies but I won't do that in public. Stay away from the eBay kits and cores though, they are a real craps-shoot.

Re: 1G FMIC Kit Suggestions?
Get the Buschur race kit or the Diamond Star Motorsport one with short pipes. They're the 28x10.5x3 and 7/8 one. They work and are nice. Otherwise that ExtremePSI/SLS one works too and is pretty much identical w/ Garrett cores instead. Don't get a Dejon one unless it's a real good deal.
If you want bigger, FP makes a 26x12x4" one for like $7-800.

Buschur, Extreme PSI, Extreme Intercooler, SLS Fab, Kinetic, etc. Avoid anything and everything Dejon tool.

Re: 1G FMIC Kit Suggestions?
i got the Kinetic kit with SS piping for real cheap. Slowboy sells it as their race core kit. The core is pretty damn large though, and people have run 9s on it.

Except their intake pipes, they are simple and nice enough.

Except when they aren't even close to fitting. Or their BOV return is aimed back at the MAS.

The thing that sucks though is they use curved couplers. Very expensive to replace.... My one ripped by the alternator cause the fitment kinda sucks and was rubbing on the alternator.

Thats too bad. I've owned two and installed a few others (1G and 2G, steel and aluminum) and been very happy with each one. No fitment or quality issues at all.

Re: 1G FMIC Kit Suggestions?
I wish that someone would make a 1G kit with an endtank design like the DV/DT 2G kit.
http://www.dvdtfab.com/
It doesn't take a whole lot of knowledge about fluid dynamics to realize how superior the flow characteristics of those those endtanks are to the vast majority of what's available on the market today.

Re: 1G FMIC Kit Suggestions?
You could always buy the cast GReddy (or maybe it was Apexi) endtanks and custom fabricate a 1G setup around them.

We already did this once for the 3s. Making endtanks for a 1g wouldn't be that difficult, but with the majority of dsmer's going for the cheapest intercooler setup available (remember intercoolers don't matter from a previous thread last week?), what would the point of a shop to invest capital into designing yet another dsm intercooler kit be?
Intercooler endtank design plays a VERY IMPORTANT roll in the cooling efficency and flow of your intercooler system.
That dvdfab stuff looks pretty damm good!

I agree, but I am also pretty sure that they would sell you the endtanks if you really wanted. I dont think it would be too hard to make them fit on a smaller(width) core and put it in a 1g.

The Greddy endtanks do looks very nice however, without seeing some CFD maps, I do not believe that they can compete with the DV/DT endtanks.

Did you run any CFD simulations on your endtanks?

On a side note, the textbook that Albert got many of his images out of for that report was written by a group of Iowa State professors.

When I get the cash, I am going to approach Albert about prototyping a kit for my Laser.

Re: 1G FMIC Kit Suggestions?
Wow Jakey, that man really did his research and it definitely shows in his design. I wonder how come the other big competitors arent taking after his examples? I am sure it costs more but if the product is that much better it could easily be gained back.
BTW, what do Iowans know
Ya want to do my stress/strain homework for me?

90% of the DSM'ers have the Toonerz mentality of believing that everything on eBay and billybuttfuckintercoolers.com is God's gift to the forced induction world. Like Swanny said, it's not worth a company to invest money into.
