Advice

Don't put it in third gear when you're going 100+mph. Its sucks when you car gets f***ed up after that.

Me- "I don't think you would stand a chance."
Cop says "probably not" and drives off.

Re: Advice

Hey, where have I seen this happen before? Man, there was this one car in IA, but I can't put my figure on it.

Re: Advice

Actually, I was waiting to tell you guys this for a while now, but my dad used to own this crazy german car, something called a 911? 1965, I believe, 6 carbs and rwd, the good 'ol days! Anyways, he let my mom drive it one day, and she shifts from third to second at about 100mph. My dad says he literally watched the tach burry itself into 9k (or 10k, I don't remember what the tach went to) and the whole drivetrain SCREEEEEEAM for what obviously felt like an eternity, but he said probably 2-3 seconds, and the engine would have for sure hit around 11k rpms. My mom slams the clutch back in as fast as she can (she's a pretty handy driver, she's doing a 100mph pull in a 911, ok?) and without thinking, shifts into fifth and starts to slow down. My parents are staring at each other, my mom scared to death my dad will kill her, my dad scared his 911 is toast.

Well, like I said, my mom had shifted into fifth and started to slow down and kept going. The motor & tranny were both fine, and my dad drove that car for five more years before he sold it (the year after I was born). True story, and that's why one day a porsche will be in my garage instead of a dsm. =)

Re: Advice

Is anything broken? DSM valvetrains seems to hold up very well to overrevs.

Re: Advice

I had something similar happen on my Stealth. Luckily I only skipped two teeth on the timing belt. Got a new belt and everything was cherry.

I was racing a poopra at the time. (and lost)

later,
Curt

Re: Advice

I went from 3rd gear at ~8000-8500RPMs into 2nd. Valvetrain parts went flying. The car still made decent power after throwing some replacement rockers and lifters into the intake cam side.

Yeah, but it's still just a drama post unless you actually tell us what happened.
