2g Maf 1g car w/ 650's

I do not have an eprom. I know that 650's with just an SAFC makes it difficult to tune. Because you subtract so much fuel, and the ECU goes to the map for that amount of airflow, and your timing becomes way off from where you want it to be.

So I read that for the 1g guys upgrading to the 2g maf makes it pretty much a bolt on for 550's. I think -24 for 550s +22 for 2g maf. Something like that. So I was thinking... Going with 650's on a 2g maf would be like tuning for 550's on 1g maf. It would be easier. Get what I'm saying? Am I thinking correct? Has anybody done this setup before? If so, good results?

It'll work fine. Does your setup require larger than stock injectors though? You should give us details on your car so we can give you the best possible advice.

The 550's NEARLY balance out for a 2g mas swap. We have discussed this before on this forum...try digging around a bit.

The 650's work okay on a S-afc..I would recommend to just take it somewhere to get tuned. I charge $150 to setup S-afc's and tune them for high/low.

Too bad you don't have an EPROM. I have 2 chips sitting here that are for a 1g with a 2g MAS, and 660's.

A 2G mas would make it much easier, plus it looks way better.

Okay well what's on the car now...

Free Mods
Datalogger
EGT, boost readouts
Ported Evo III Manifold
Ported 14b
Ported 2g o2 housing
3" Turbo back exhaust
Walbro 190
Dejontool UICP
Bpr7es plugs
Act 2600 w/ street disc
Boost controller.

Purchasing a FMIC kit and ARP head studs next week.
Then I would like to run the EVOIII turbo, but want to get my fuel stuff done first. So leads me to this thread.

Re: 2g Maf 1g car w/ 650's

If you dont have the SAFC yet you could go for the EPROM instead. Have it tuned and a chip burned(or buy Brandons). Then if you ever do the DSMlink route you would be set.

Re: 2g Maf 1g car w/ 650's

Trust me, I would go DSM link if I had more money lying around. For what I want with my car I can do without DSM link.

2gmaf 70bucks used
SAFC II 200bucks used or

Eprom 200+
DSMLink 500 being the lowest I seen.

Re: 2g Maf 1g car w/ 650's

I would do the 2G MAF and EPROM. I do custom chip tunes on 1Gs with just an EPROM ECU. It's a lot better than the SAFC route. Running 650cc injectors with an AFC and 2G MAF will cause the ECU to want to run a lot of timing at pump gas airflow levels. Even though doing a 2G MAF with 550s almost evens out, all it is doing is reporting less airflow to the ECU, which is just like doing it with the SAFC itself. Running 650s on a 1G DSM without changing the injector scaler in the ECU will require lowering the airflow reported to the ECU by 30+%, which can cause problems on some cars that aren't exceeding the top airflow row of the timing map by that same 30+%.

You could do a generic chip in an EPROM ECU setup for your injector size/2G MAF and then fine tune it with the SAFC also. Then atleast you would be closer to start with and not have to go as far negative on the SAFC.

What do you charge for EPROM chips?

Re: 2g Maf 1g car w/ 650's

I usually do them custom on the dyno. So it's dyno time. But if you just wanted a generic one for your setup and any special requests, if you want some special ignition timing or something, then probably like $50.
