I watched about 10 minutes of it yesterday... Honestly, that had to be the 2nd gayest form of racing I've ever seen on TV. 1st would be some global rallycross thing with Illest hatchbacks running around in a parking lot.

I felt like I was watching a group of kids at Pole Position in electric karts. And pitstop = changing cars? WTF?!

Re: Formula E 2014. Round 2. Putrajaya. Race!

What race were you watching? I watched this last night and I'll say that 10 minutes in a race like this isn't enough. Yes the two yellow flags + safety cars at the beginning didn't help, but the tidal wave doesn't come until about 80% of the way through the race. Laps 23-27 are pretty intense in this particular race and the chase between the top 2 towards the end was almost the same strategy game as the end of the final F1 grand prix of the year on sunday. Longevity vs speed vs laps remaining + the fight at the end.

Maybe I've been watching too much F1 lately but the format is very similar and the tech gets me a little revved up as well. The cars are pretty damn fast for being 100% electric. The tires are fucking garbage (I think this should change) and imho they should consider doubling the weight of the batteries and not doing the stupid car change mid race. Also they need to mic the cars a bit more, whats really missing is the revving of the engines BUT these cars still have 5- or 6-speed transmissions and when you listen to the electric motor whine and the thing rev through the gears it is still a pretty cool sound imho.

Again, the tech. It's amazing that there are race cars running on freaking batteries. Batteries! No it's not nascar and not F1 but for what it is, it's getting there.

Tech info on the cars copied/pasted from previous thread just for fun. Pretty interesting specs:

Interesting tech here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIA_Formula_E_Championship

"For the first season, all teams have been supplied an electric racing car built by Spark Racing Technology, called the Spark-Renault SRT 01E. The chassis has been designed by Dallara, with an electric motor developed by McLaren (and is the same as that used in its P1 supercar), a battery system created by Williams F1 and a Hewland five-speed gearbox. Michelin will be the official tyre supplier. So far, 42 electric cars have been ordered by the FIA."

Power

Max power (limited): 200 kW (268 hp), approx 230 N·m (170 ft·lbf) torque (estimated)[18]
Race mode (power-saving): 150 kW (201 hp)
Push-to-Pass: Additional 30 kW (40 hp)

Performance

Acceleration: 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 3 s - Estimated
Maximum speed: 225 km/h (140 mph) (FIA limited)
