The factory stereo in my C6 is absolute junk. I ended up buying some decent 6.5 components and made adapter plates for them. But then again, the Bose system in my Tahoe sounds fantastic, so they do some of them right.

The itch was strong so I had to get something ordered up for the 'Vette before next weekend's annual Shreveport cruise!

I stumbled upon the TMC performance shifter box and knew it was something that fit my needs perfectly since it retains the factory components, just removes the slop (much like my prior stock shifter mods/tweaks did, this just takes it a step further) with a billet end-cap and metal bearings.

There are 3 bushing options: polyurethane, Delrin, & metal. I already have polyurethane in the car (replaced the squishy factory rubber) so I opted for the Delrin so I could compare the two. I want to keep noise and vibration down so I do not have any interest in the metal. It should be here on Thursday and I hope to have it installed this weekend.

Peter I think you have the c6 z06 setup which is much better than the base. I believe it uses plastic instead of rubber bushings. But that was 6 years ago so I might be wrong haha.

Hmm ill have to take a look, not sure the differences. Sure feels a bit looser than Id like. Twss haha

EDIT: looks like all C6 shifters are the same, some Z years had no rubber bushings between the torque tube and the shifter, so they vibrated more. That was revised to all rubber later years. Either way all the shifter seem to wear out and slop over time.

This shifter box is compatible with all years C5/6/7. I'll let you know my thoughts, but at $125 I think its a no-brainer! Peter is correct on all the shifter boxes being identical with only the bushings being different (early C6 Z06 came solid metal, but then were revised to rubber just like all the other C5/6/7 models).

I'm torn which bushings to use though, my currently installed polyurethane or the Delrin I'm getting with the box (he supplies your choice of polyurethane, Delrin, or metal). He says his favorite all-around is the Delrin, but I am slightly concerned with it being such a rigid material with minimal give of dampening.

Here are his 3 threads, all basically the same, but a little different info in each so I did find is beneficial to read through all of them.

These are the bushings I currently have: https://www.zip-corvette.com/97-19-shifter-lower-housing-bushings.html

I am old now, so my vote is for the one that gives the most rigidity without being annoying as hell. So might not be Delrin.

How big of a pain is it to swap the bushings if you don't like? If it's easy I'd say start with his recommendation and change if it sucks.

Good info! I would think the delrin and poly would be very similar, they are both pretty dense but still have some dampening compared to solid metal mounts.

Peter can you go ahead and purchase/install those before you sell me the car? :D
