I can see getting my ass handed to me quite easily in this class, I think there needs to be a middle ground between the 350-450whp cars and the 62mm (700+whp class)
I agree. there is a big difference between a stock apearing dsm turbo to a stock apearing evo turbo. the biggest "true" stock apearing turbo a dsm could run would be a small turbo on a evo.

That bimmer dude was posting on mnsc about how he was going to kick ass at proving grounds before the event last year. I think he was running like 12.2-ish at the event.
That's halarious, I knocked his ass out of the competition with a basically shot motor (~110 compression, blowing oil) and only 20psi on a TDo5 turbo, on a 20 minute street tune.
He did seem like a nice enough guy in person, so who knows...
I suspect it's going to be a very competitive field in stock appearing in 2012.

Really? Post links if you can, that's funny :D
Not bad for a bimmer though, he probably won't be so vocal about kicking ass this year though.
FWIW he did have a decent setup, stock turbos w/ intakes, full exhaust, alky injection...it was a one-wheel wonder but it still was running consistent low 12's aaaaaalll weekend.

He was very very nice until I ran into him at Taco Bell after the weekend was over, he was really upset we had beat him, that's all I will say...
I don't think I saw any modified intake manifolds or SMIM's but I wasn't looking too hard.
I did see a lot of cast exhaust manifolds that weren't stock, but I think cast manifolds should be allowed to be honest.

IMHO anything you can look at it at a glance and it could be shrugged off as stock should fly.
Given the numbers you have been running in your car you will do great in this class man, you have zero to worry about!

Brad, that was taken from last year.
Thanks scheides, i remember that car now. I like that thing.
I agree with your take on the stock appearing deal, but here's a thing almost every DSM has a SMIM on it these days and if anything it makes the car look cleaner, but I'm sure if someone was to try and run it people would complain.
Personally I think SMIM should be allowed and cast exhaust manifolds, then someone could still run mitsu, T3, and T4 turbos.
MAP should come in here and help out. I know for the shootout everyone was complaining about the tin can's that were in their DST class, but that's because ER was driving probably the closest thing to Joe Bucci's car anyone has seen in a long time.

Why a SMIM? Most of them are polished and fancy looking; a non-car person could look under the hood and even identify that as 'not stock appearing'...know what I mean?

Anything that doesn't look stock wont let you race in that class, i also think they should have more classes possibly like a "super stock" or something like that where you could have a turbo up to 50trim and full exhaust/intake and fmic. along with what ever other goodies your avg dsm/evo/subi would have thats just my thoughts

It seems like a lot more have SMIM and because they sit so much lower I basically don't realize its there.
I'm ready for some official words on these rules, and I can't wait to get a SMIM till after proving grounds i guess.

Heh, looks like the tubular header bumps me from stock appearing to getting ass whooped class.

Only a 30 minute swap though...
