Back Ground Story
Had the car for about two years. Ive always had big plans for it, never really got around to getting the car to run at its best. However i did enjoy my evo III 16G set up while i had it. It was a really fun Daily Driver. Long story Short Engine always had low compression since i got it, and after 2 years of driving it it started developing slight knock under acceleration. Early February of 2011. Didnt think nothing big of it, assumed it was lifter tick. Just how it proved to be in the past. 5w30 what can ya say. Changed to Rottella 5w 40 and rottela 15w 40 lifter tick never came back. However It turned out to be my rod bearings were starting to go out. Drained the oil sure enough metal shavings.

Not sure if you can tell from the picture

Unfortunately a friend of mines talon caught on fire, mid winter but had plenty goodies i could use in my build that i always wanted to start. So over the winter i was partially setting my car up in stages to make some serious power. For the most part at first i had a power goal of roughly 450- 500 hundred whp on map's dyno. I began to research what reasonable power people can make on the set up reliably. . .and i quickly trashed that goal. Even though before it made over 400whp on map's dyno. After realizing what it takes to build a car of that caliper, i dont have a huge huge power goal anymore instead im building it to make whatever and be fun. Not quite the stop light pull/highway run fun you can have with the 16G sized turbos ect

( I would like to make somewhat around 400 on DB's dyno number wise) However like i said this build is all about having fun and the learning process doing something ive never tried before ect. I dont want set my self up for disappointment. . .but i am going for boarder line broke to an extend.

Ive silently worked away with a couple friends of mine. Welding up exhaust,http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/xx10/Doctor4G/172401_1607765110036_1113434528_31265941_242473_o-1.jpg http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/xx10/Doctor4G/194186_1607767430094_1113434528_31265955_554603_o. jpg

Got my oil pressure gauge, wideband, over all just prepping the car for a bigger turbo. I got a new bumper for the car and resprayed that.

Then i started getting a little painting happy, and decided to do my wheels valve cover. Put a shiney stock intake manifold. http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/xx10/Doctor4G/IMG_20110417_011607.jpg

I also painted my strut bar and fuel rail. The fuel rail turned out nicely the strut bar well. . . i liked it but it might be a little to much not sure.
Car was starting to look what i wanted it to look like exterior wise.
http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/xx10/Doctor4G/IMG_20110417_150019-1.jpg

Felt like i was putting a gold ring on a pigs snout though, since this engine was getting old and was having so many issues, but it was still fun. The end process turned out ok i thought? What do you guys think? It all will need to be redone, since i am clueless when it comes to painting. Some of the paint on the wheels was starting to chip just before it got parked.

I got A LOT of funny looks with the white bumper on to my surprise a few thumbs up.

I was mostly doing all this while going to school full time and working full time. Funniest of all i was still Daily Driving My Talon that was starting to develop Rod Knock. Picked up some ACL Race bearings from MAP (GREAT SERVICE BY THE WAY :D) Everything seemed to be coming together nicely.

All that was left was continuing to save up money and just baby the car until i could put in the rod bearings and call her good. Do the e85 conversion ect. Never mind the low compression (THE LOWER THE COMPRESSION THE MORE BOOST YOU RUN RIGHT? jk) Run her till she gives. Since the option, or train of thought was: If i brake the engine in car pushing its limits and learning how to use DSM link and what not. I could always swap engines from the Donor car. The plan became reality faster then i thought. I picked up a set of 1200cc injectors, gm maf and what not getting ready to switch over to e85.

I got a few more parts.

http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/xx10/Doctor4G/IMG_20110404_213008.jpg

Mid April
But my car started developing a intermittent miss fire which i couldn't figure out. As a result the e85 was put on hold. I boost leak tested after boost leak tested. Sprayed my wires to see if they were grounding out somehow somewhere. Did all the checks i could think of swapping coils, different wires, checking the injector circuit ect nothing seemed to get rid of it. My ECU was fine. After a while I figured the engine must just be starting at its limits and overall worn. After Checking everything i decided to pull my plugs and clean them up just to do routine maintenance. What i found once again changed my plans for my project. I overlooked the most simplest thing my plugs.
http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/xx10/Doctor4G/IMG_20110417_172101.jpg

As you could see the plug must of came slightly loose and when i happily went to remove it, it decided to take the threads out of my cylinder head :). . .so now my Engine was knocking do the bearings going out and the head had to come of in order to properly fix the threads. Plus it had low compression to begin with you can consider it junk to an extend! The car being my daily driver and me having an appointment that very same day i gently put the plug back in and surprisingly it went back in, and stayed in. BIG MISTAKE! It drove and still pulled ok. . .i could tell it was a ticking bomb though. . .

May
This brings us to a couple weeks back that dont have anything relevant to do with this project except for my replacement for the talon. My New daily driver a 1993 HONDA CIVIC! Its such a surprisingly nice car! Turn key starts, the exterior is rusted but which honda isnt . . .picked it up 2weeks or 3 weeks ago. http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/xx10/Doctor4G/256923_1742123988924_1113434528_31448211_593881_o. jpg
http://i736.photobucket.com/albums/xx10/Doctor4G/IMG_20110424_175103.jpg

-Stainless steel braided Clutch Line
-New Slave Cylinder
-Greedy Blow BOV
-4 Bolt Rear End Conversion
-Mishimoto Radiator/Slim Fans

Prolly left some stuff out but it gives people an idea. . .

Plans are to pretty much get all the parts installed, do a semi wire tuck, paint the engine bay black. Respray my wheels fuel rail, maybe the front mount intercooler. Have my valve cover painted by Primo wrinkle some kind of color. Overall the theme color for the car is Black and Purple. Most people dont care so much about the exterior look and colors ect. I would like to have my car look tasteful but not ricey and be quick. So thats it pretty much for now. We pulled the replacement engine last weekend while the hurricanes were flying around. It will be transported to the location where my shell is next week. Ill frequently update with pictures ect.

Ill be looking for some feed back as far as power goals, and supporting mods go in case im forgetting anything ect. Enjoy :) I hope for it all to be said and done early to mid July. I would be dreaming if i expected some negative comments but if possible when criticizing lets keep it constructive and come up with good alternatives ect. I hope you guys will enjoy the journey and who knows it might inspire a few of you to finish your projects. So we can all have a fun summer.

(SORRY FOR THE HUGE PICTURES I CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO SHRINK THEM) :D

Nice work man, big project! Keep us updated as you get it fixed.

I think I missed the part about the intake manifold swap, what was that all about? Just pics no explanation.

That xtd stage 4 clutch is a pretty good clutch for the money. But I wouldnt put it in a daily driver. I have one in my talon and it works great.

Sorry ill have to edit that. Reason why i swapped the manifolds was simply because i had a clean one laying around. Plus i took the exhaust manifold off to swap it and then figured i might as well take the intake one off and degrease ect.

So far it seems like clutch chatter and driveability in the concern for a daily driver. 2cons and one good, being for the prize it is a decent clutch. How is the pedal feel on it? My old clutch was a act 2100 full face street disk. Now most people that have experience using the xtd what kind of set ups did you guys have before power wise? What other options should i consider? At first i was thinking act 2600 with a 6 puck sprung, untill i read up on a few nightmare storys about the springs coming loose. . .

xtds kick springs pretty easy. clutchnet is the only brand to fully enclose their springs on both sides. my stage 3 is probably in line with a 2100. xtd will work but it wont last more then a year maybe 2 if you baby it

In my old talon I ran xtd stage 3 and it worked great. The pedal feel was good and it was easy to drive. It held the power and I never broke it in. my new talon I put the xtd stage 4 unsprung clutch in and its tough to drive. The pedal is pretty hard.

trust me get the clutchnet 6puck it well worth it its an amazing clutch and is quite smooth for a 6puck, i had it paired with the xtd 2300lb pressure plate and i loved it
