they may not be able to handle real high hp (400+).

You just answered my question. I seek over that hp range on my stock un-sleeved block :)

I think a lot of the "engines are garbage" comments stem from issues regarding poor tuning and/or improper engine oil choices.

Amen...best reading in this post so far.

Can you say sponsorship dollars?

Also, people need to get over the Ken Block leg-humping. He isn't the greatest driver to ever grace motorsports with a presence.

I'll agree with the "Ken Block isn't the greatest driver" comment. Seems he's totalled 2 wrx's in the last 2 Ojibwe's. Plus, he drives for Ford now anyways.

Subaru's do have an extremely safe body structure. Ask Mark Utecht about that. During a blizzard he got into something like a 20 or so car pileup on I35. He ended up rearending a one ton pickup (cracking the rear diff on the truck) and then was rearended by a one ton carpet van. Afterwards he could open and close ALL 4 doors.

Mitsu pulled out of rally years ago, I believe Subaru may have now as well (or at least cut way back).
