You should also make sure your cam timing hasn't jumped a few tooth or something.

It hasn't. If it did, there would be a whole lot of broken parts in the engine.

Yeah, so it started and runs fine. I had the plug wires mixed up like an idiot. Now I need the wideband, and I don't care about a gauge, it'll just be used for the aem, plus I'd rather have fewer gauges in my car.

So if I just buy the sensor and not the "controller" that will just be fine, right?

A wideband needs a controller to work, it's not like a regular O2 sensor. You can get one with out a gauge and hook it right to the AEM, but it still needs a sensor + black box to run the sensor.
