Actually you don't want to carry a balance at all from month to month. Even if you pay it off every month, the CC will actually show a balance on your credit report. They usually report to the credit agencies once a month, and whatever the balance is at that time, is the balance that will show on your report. So it's possible to have it paid off every month, and still build credit by showing that it's being used.

Yeah, that's the point. You want to show an ability to manage credit and debt. If you pay off the card every month then you are not showing an ability to managed credit/debt. Don't get me wrong, paying off a CC will build good credit over time, but not nearly as looked as at someone who might carry a $25 - $50 balance on a credit card with a $300 credit limit during several months. It shows use, while not overusing the line of credit. Have the balance so it reports, then pay it off. Then have a small balance for 2 more months, then pay it off. It's best to do this with 2-3 cards (loans or other lines of credit included) max (house and car loans not included).

I've destroyed my credit over time and currently working at building it up again and not only have done my research on the subject as of late, but dealt with some profesional help from credit managing and the three reporting companies.

Tauni, One of my coworkers claims his family is renting a room out of their house for $200 a month I believe. That's about as cheap as it gets, but it's also only a room. I can call the guy and get you his number and whatnot if you'd like.

In Oakdale there is an apartment complex that goes off of income solely. There is a 5 month waiting list though.

If you can find someone that owns a house, and is willing to rent out a bedroom, I would do that. That's what I'm doing right now and it's alot cheaper than an apartment.

If you don't have great credit/low income, you can try finding someone in the suburbs that rents out a basement or upper level in their house. Usually they are cheaper and don't involve credit checks. You'll find them in good neighborhoods for reasonable rates. If the person that rents it to you lives there, you don't have to worry so much about a friend up and leaving you hanging with a lease.

Alex: I have no clue where Wayzata is. Maybe it would be easier if you just let me know how it works.

Shrep: Um, I think? Everywhere I've ever worked its been face to face with people all day long. I love people. Why?

As far as credit cards, that worries me because I'm not that good with money. Also, don't you need to maintain some big number in your checking account to even hold the account? So far TCF is the only place where you don't have to, and TCF is bullshit.
