when vtec is one, 2 valves run off one lobe with really high lift

a vtec cam might have 3 different sized cam lobes

a 12v solenoid holds back oil. when vtec turns on, the solenoid opens and lets the oil push some locking pins on the rockers that make the valves run off the higher center lobe
