Need help on parts for the 2006 season.
I was told by Track officials that as of january 1st i would no longer be able to race unless I installed a Sealed Coolant overflow tank along with a 20lb radiator cap?
Of coarse I'm looking for something Shiny, but other then that I don't know much about what to get, look for, or where to get them at?
Also what's the exact code on this engine diaper BS? do I need to get one as well? and if so how do you install one? and where do you get one for our cars?
I still have a 1/2 tank of race gas and I want to head back up there there next event is on the 4th.

Re: Need help on parts for the 2006 season.
I don't know of any overflow tanks that are fully sealed, most like stock have an overflow tube. I suppose you could cap that off on a Moroso aluminum can or something, but you'd need something to equalize pressure within the overflow tank, like a piston or somthing. A 20# cap is only going to raise your coolant boiling point. I don't see what that would have to do with the track. Jeg's or Summit will have a bunch of overflow tanks.
I haven't heard about any need for a diaper as of yet. If that's new for NHRA this year, most any universal one should fit. Again something at Summit or Jeg's.

Re: Need help on parts for the 2006 season.
Well the rules are for Moroso only I guess.
Any import running 11.99 or faster has to have all that stuff. Now does anyone know how to install an engine Diaper?

Do you have a link to the rule about a sealed coolant overflow tank?

Re: Need help on parts for the 2006 season.
I modified a polished aluminum oil catch can to make it work as a coolant catch can. I got it on ebay for like 60 bucks...
You cant have a totally sealed overflow because then it will never be able to "overflow" if you overheat, etc.... Thats the point of having a overflow tank, so I dont see how they can make you have a sealed one when you will need to equalize the pressure like Steve said.

Re: Need help on parts for the 2006 season.
The rules are in the back of the Moroso Magazine they send out/ give you when you enter there facility (each time) It has things like upcoming events, discounts from shops, news about Moroso, etc.
I quote from Moroso magazine Nov/Dec2005, Jan 2006 Vol. 18 No.6 (page 44)
As of January 1, 2006
-All cars must have a sealed overflow canister
-all cars 9.99 or quicker must have an engine diaper
-all sport compact cars 11.99 or quicker must have engine diaper
-all cars running 11.99 or quicker must have a 20lb radiator cap
I talked to a local shop that dues a lot of adverticing with Moroso and they said they have Overflow tanks for $20.
Which was very surprising since I'd only found 1 other one that was actaully named "coolant overflow" and not "Oil Catch Can" but it was $115
Also the largest Radiator cap they make for our cars is from Greddy and it's only 18.5lbs. I talked to the same company and they said if the tech guy gives me any problems about it being 18.5lbs and not 20 that the tech is to call him to discuss it. (ie: they do the most advertising with moroso as well as put on several event each year, and the greddy is the largest one they can find that fits our cars)
Moroso it self makes several 21-25lb radiator caps but have yet to make one for Our cars. Same thing with the overflow canisters.

Re: Need help on parts for the 2006 season.
My comment goes right along with Steve's and Peter's, how do they expect your cooling system pressure to equalize when your engine heats up if the coolant overflow tank is sealed?

Re: Need help on parts for the 2006 season.
I don't get the overflow tank actually. I got one from RCI which was $20.
It has a fitting on the top for the coolant line from the thermostat housing. And then at the bottom just has a screw type bleeder valve just like the one on my fluidyne radiator. And that's all there is to it. I don't see anywhere for it to get air into the system.
Anyrate I guess I don't know the theory of the overflow canister to know exactly how it works in the system. I understand the radiator cap, and understand that the coolant overflow both sucks in coolant as well as puts coolant back in when needed.
Will this new one do the same? I'm guessing it will. and that the dump tube is just used for when you overflow the canister.

Re: Need help on parts for the 2006 season.
Well Craig was right about my Alternator Fuse being blown It has a hairline crack in it. couldn't even tell till I pulled it out, and put it under a better light.
Also got my Sealed overflow tank installed. not to difficult, but I'm still wondering if this willl cause any problems with daily driving it? (looking from imput from the experts on this before I take it for a drive tomarrow) - Do I put coolant in it? or just leave it empty?
Also started trying to figure out how the engine Diaper gets installed and I personally don't think it'll work? It's a universal one from RCI. But I guess I really don't see how it's supposed to be installed. Also not sure if it'll stand up to daily driving. I guess I'm not sure how heat resistant it is?
If anyone has any good links I'd really appreciate it. I did a google search earlier and didn't really come up with anything that panned out.
