UFC - Ultimate Fighting

Anyone else out there follow any of the UFC reality show? I am watching the finals tonight and the fist match was typical of why I don't watch that much of it. Quick, grounding, and ref stoppage after the guy on the bottom couldn't defend himself any longer.

But the second fight, HOLY SHIT! Those 2 guys went toe to toe for a solid 15 minutes. It was a non stop great fight to watch and if either of those 2 guy is ever on tv again I'm setting thr DVR to record that shit!

They are saying it was one of, if not the greatest 5 min, 3 round, right in the UFC history. It was fucking awesome.

Yeah, but he went for a kick and slipped and just got fucking pummeled. First round ref stoppage due to Ken getting his ass whopped!

Re: UFC - Ultimate Fighting

Well, you can see that shamrock kicks franklin so hard that he knocks himself off his own feet and as they are in half gaurd shamrock made the mistake of not protecting the proper part of his head and you can see franklin nail him with that first hook to the outside of his temple. Then watch shamrocks right leg start to go limp after that. You can tell just how hard he got hit by shamrock's leg moving out of position and into a fetal like ball. Only for franklin to follow up with 13-14 punches to his face. Simply amazing. I thought it was all over when shamrock had him in the reverse ankle lock. Franklin will be the next big thing in UFC you guys wait.

Shamrock just curled up in a ball. WTF? He used to be the shit, but it looked like he was just in it for the money or something. It was like he didn't care. There were definately some great fights though.

I have watched that before. Its kinda cool but to me its too 'controlled'. I like the thought of a cage with two dudes fighting for their lives.

Craig

K-1 is insane. I actually prefer it over UFC because of the regulations. It takes alot more developed skill than say, endurance or brute force. You see alot more initial kicking and thai clenching which follows into close range knees and combos and thats where dudes can really get hurt. Its intense but UFC also in its own respect is unique because alot of those dudes even tho they train in a specific art they have diffrent backgrounds and prefer diffrent methods of attack. I guess over all I would watch k-1 for the range attacks and ufc to get my submission fix. A little bit of both worlds. It's cool to see more social acceptance of this style over the hollywood martial arts that you see in John Woo flicks because of you do your research muaythai is one of the most simplistic and brutal art forms that has withstood centuries against other forms.

I love UFC. I've been into it for like 5 years. When the show, "The Ultimate Fighter" started, I watched every episode. Maybe I'll audition for TUF 3 or 4.

it is called a heel hook

and that fight was a work. Tito put shammie down with a knee that had 10x the impact, and shammie defending 100x better. Not to mention shammie has been fighting for 15+ years and even I know how to defend from the guard better than he did.

Re: UFC - Ultimate Fighting

^^^ Actually NO, they don't invite you.

You do have to audition by sending in a videotape of you fighting/training and an interview of yourself. Also, you need to fill out an application.

Re: UFC - Ultimate Fighting

Bringing this back up. Obviously the UFC is very popular now. And I've also been watching WEC, Pride, and K1 shit every so often. I was going to get UFC 73, but I'm waiting for UFC 74.

I did come across the UFC 73 Payout. Kinda wacked to see the variances.

Fighter Pay Outs For UFC 73 Stacked

-Anderson Silva ($90,000) def. Nathan Marquardt ($24,000).
-Sean Sherk ($28,000) def. Hermes Franca ($14,000).
-Tito Ortiz ($210,000) and Rashad Evans ($16,000) fought to a Draw.
-Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira ($200,000) def. Heath Herring ($70,000).
-Kenny Florian ($16,000) def. Alvin Robinson ($3,000).
-Stephan Bonnar ($32,000) def. Mike Nickels ($5,000).
-Jorge Gurgel ($14,000) def. Diego Saraiva ($3,000).
-Chris Lytle ($20,000) def. Jason Gilliam ($3,000).
-Frank Edgar ($10,000) def. Mark Bocek ($3,000).

Total disclosed pay outs: $761,000

Sean Sherk is a local MN guy who was recently featured on Spike TVs all access. Watching that made me tired as hell, his training is fucking crazier than anything I've ever seen. And it's depressing to see him, as the current light heavyweight champion, not make as much money as some of the other names.
